Looooking at the M2 as a move from my Scirocco R however now there's a spanner in the works via the competition announcement replacing the existing car at basically the same price point.

Question is is MOAR powah always better esp with some added weight?
The S55 engine also doesn't sound as good as the N55 to most people.
Might make for some crazy deals on the outgoing M2 LCi too.

Love my current car but have driven Sciroccos for 8 years now and getting the itch to change!

I already ordered one a week ago...

It addresses the main things I dislike about the current M2... needed better seats, moar powar & better brakes.

The S55 is a better engine.

For the last couple of months there have already been some great deals on the current M2 LCI... £45k for a fully loaded car brand new.

Do it... it's a massive improvement over the Scirocco R.

Wait so you can go into a dealer now and order M2C's?!
I agree on seats and wing mirrors but not on more power for now.
I'd be looking to finance via PCP, not sure I've seen 45k cars?
Yes I anticipate it will be a nice jump from my current car.

I have paid a deposit to put my name on the list. I haven't finalised the order as the dealer don't have the order book yet... I've just added myself to the queue and when it's ready to go, they'll call me in to finalise the order.

They're not advertised that cheap... but Milton Keynes have a nicely specced car in white that they offered me for £45k.

Just registered, 18 plate, not been out of the showroom by the time I was there.

I've read about others being offered similar deals...

So how do you get these offers exactly? They're pre configured cars ready to go not made to order?

Is the deposit refundable on the M2C?
Might have to pop in to a branch and ask some questions!

Yes... the offers come on the cars that the dealers have already ordered for stock or demonstrators. They need to sell these cars... so moving the stock is a priority for them rather than having them sitting around losing money.

There is no incentive to discount a factory order.

For me, I just went into the MK dealer on a whim for wifey to look at M2 vs M240i... they'd just taken delivery of a new demonstrator that hadn't yet left the showroom but was registered on an 18 plate. Decent spec, everything you'd want.

Asked about price and timeline of a new order or the one they had... was told new would be a while and blah was the price (£53k ish I think with the right spec)... the demonstrator was about the same list price.

Guy went to see his manager and said... "oh, but we can sell you this one now with delivery mileage, not left the showroom, for £45k... how's that?".

I didn't negotiate or anything... said we were looking to purchase by September and were just there to have a quick look for the wife. IE, no skill required. Wife and I were so happy with the deal I almost went for it... came home and found out about the new version... so moved over to get on the list for the new one.

That car wasn't advertised online either... best way is to just have a chat with a couple of local dealers and see what they have now or coming soon... looks to be easy to find a similar deal around the same price.

Thanks. I don't want a monthly much about 450 where possible so looking at 7.5-8k deposit using Mr R as collateral in effect.
Hope the new M2 is better in everyway that's important. Did they tell you expected MSRP?

Only info I have is "around" current pricing... the EVO article seems to confirm that.

Why get an M2 currently when the m240i has a better engine?
If I were to get an M2 I'd wait until the b58 engine is tuned by m division and put on the m cars...at this point, if buying/pcp-ing new, s55 is old tech...

No, the M240i has a much worse engine

Saying that proves you’ve driven none... maybe 1... of those engines :p

Oh... and have no interest in driving.

The difference between the M2 & m240i is huge.

Why get an M2 over an M240i? Because you prefer driving a good car instead of a mediocre car.

M2 looks amazing the m240i leaves me cold, good a car it is.
M4s are huge muscle cars that spin off the road and honestly no one is too enamoured with in reviews. Look at the number of crashed cars on auto trader. It just can't put the power down.
Im not waiting for yet more engines to be released I gotta live in the here and now there are always changes around the corner and right NOW BMW is about to release the replacement to the current M2 and need to decide what to do.
I'll likely be keeping four years or so so need to get it right.

Soooo you haven't really ordered one have you. :p

OP with the amount of changes that are coming to the regular M2 to make the M2 CS, I can't help but think the CS is going to be massively more expensive (60k inc DCT at least i think) and probably a limited run as a result. Not to mention that it hasn't even officially been announced yet, nor have dealers started taking orders, nor have they cleared any waiting lists. If you wanted a brand new M2 CS, I think it will be this time next year by the time you get one, unless you get a cancelled order or a ex-demo or something.

A 2 year old M4 Competition Pack is going to be a much better bet overall unless you are absolutely sold on wanting £60,000 2 series and nothing else will do.

EDIT: Just done some Googling - Autocar is reporting that the M2 CS is going to be £52,000 in DCT guise(£49k in manual). That's incredibly reasonable considering all of the upgrades/changes they've made over the standard M2!

Will have to see if Autocar are talking out of their backside or not...

The base prices have been confirmed... its £51k with dct

Probably £55k with the right options

And yes, that will get you a very nice M4 Comp Pack and is almost enough for a new M4CP

I’d rather get the M4...
