The Formula 1 teams are no strangers to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (formerly known as the Circuit de Catalunya); not only have they raced there every year since 1991, they also conduct extensive testing at the venue.
Familiarity does not, however, lessen the challenge for car or driver. Barcelona's mix of high- and low-speed corners, plus its abrasive and rather bumpy track surface, makes for a physically and mechanically taxing race.
Tyre wear is particularly high and the varying winds that cut across the circuit mean an optimum set-up can be hard to find.
For spectators Turn 1 (also known as Elf corner) is among the best places to watch, as it is one of the track's few overtaking opportunities. For the drivers it is the final two turns, known collectively as New Holland, which provide one of the biggest challenges of the season. A fast exit is essential in order to maximise speed down the start-finish straight into Elf.
2018 marks the 28th time Barcelona has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher has been the most successful driver at the circuit, with a total of six victories. Among the current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have all won there.

Just when you thought the cars couldn't get much uglier... Ferrari turns up with their halo mounted mirrors.

FIA: You're not allowed any aero fairings further than 20mm from the halo, but yeah, feel free to mount your wing mirrors on there as of course, you won't make those aerodynamically advantageous...

******* idiots....

It's not as if the cars are tricky to get in or out of at the moment with the halo and the rapidly growing collection of strakes and fins around the sidepod intakes before you allow all this utter guff to be attached to the halo.

I knew it was happening. But that gopping and extra aero pieces? No.
I'm genuinely surprised the FIA have allowed the extra aero parts on the mirror mounts.

Mclaren front wing looks like they're almost trying to extend the floor to tip the nose. Although the nostrils are very interesting. Passing air up the side of of the of the nose and possibly exiting into the middle of the front suspension. Few different angles now available so it'll be figured shortly. ;)

It's not exactly pretty though.

The wing and halo aero are lol. The point of the halo is to protect them from big bits of debris/wheels/etc slamming into them, right? What happens if a wheel slams into the Ferrari halo where that mirror is? It'd have nowhere to go other than into the driver's head!
Also doesn't help with driver identification when on track as it blocks the side view a bit more, and also will block some visibility of the driver.

It is ridiculous to rely on the halos to save the pilots from flying objects.
From small, flying objects - forget it.
From large as another car - maybe.
Also, the halos considerably reduce the pilots' visibility and make driving more difficult.

Insane halo was always going to go mental once the engineers had the benefit of a bit of thinking time. Ugly just got uglier.

That McLaren wing is so complex! I’d love to see the micro detail of the predicted airflow that they used when designing it.

Its not thinking time, the FIA have said that they will be allowing mirrors to be mounted on the halo. Cue a load more money wasted on this tiny bit of aero development.

That front wing just makes me sad. It looks beautiful, but so much money wasted again.

The mirror and it's support aren't strong enough to deflect the mass of a loose wheel travelling at any decent speed. They will just disintegrate on impact, so this is not a safety issue.

I agree it's incredibly ugly, though, and shouldn't have been allowed simply for that reason.
