Excuse me I may have missed a trick here but I'm looking for a new phone and need some advice as I haven't looked at phones for three years. I have a S7 edge with the optional racing stripe. It's tatty, the rear glass is smashed and the stripe is becoming annoying so I'm looking to buy another phone.

Is there any real difference between the S9+ or Note 8 apart from the obvious size and stylus, I've looked at a side by side comparison and they seem to use all the same hardware albeit a slightly larger battery in the S9+.

I'm not fussed by size really as I use it mainly with a headset or in the car with Android Auto.

Thanks

Note 8 owner here and I use the stylus every day. It's fantastic on the Note 8 if you need to make notes at work and hate carrying paper, like me.

Note 8 only if your going use the stylus
I use an note 8 myself but I only very rarely use the stylus...:o

What price can you get a note 8 for these days ?
(But it maybe worth going the note 8 if you get one much cheaper then a 9+ )

Am also guessing with the 9+ being newer it keep it value better

I'm not too worried about the value, I tend to trash phones and pass them on rather than bother selling them, this S7 is quite old and tatty. I've just paid £574 for the Note 8 delivered tomorrow :)

As a Note 8 owner, if you're not bothered about the stylus - definitely go with the S9+. The latter will have slightly better specs in the major areas but not that noticeable, apart from the camera (e.g. super slow-mo).

However, the stylus is pretty damn awesome

So basically if you don't use the stylus pen then buy an S9+ as i'm in the same situation and it looks like a choice between these 2 phones ? I just wish neither had a curved edge as i'm not the biggest fan of curved edges, i've always had Note phones and currently have the Note 5 which i've really enjoyed using and i prefer the edges on that to any of the newer curved edge screens.

Pretty much, @The Matrix, if you dont want or use the stylus then there's no real reason to buy the note 8. There's not much in it other than that. I prefer the shape of the s9+ over the note8 but then i prefer the s9 over the s9+. I love big screens but i feel samsung got it just about perfect with the smaller models.

What? Oh, i remember. You got upset when i said the note 4 wasnt good enough for serious note taking. You shouldn't take things so seriously. It worked for you, didn't work for me. That should have been the end of it. It's just a phone :o

Look, my opinion hasn't changed, there are still better devices out there and I don't rate the note series for taking actual notes much at all although that said they are great for quickly scribbling something down but that isnt proper note taking. I loved my note 4. Well, till it broke the 2nd time.

Anyway, I didnt know if The Matrix is buying outright or on contract so cost is irrelevant to the point I was making which was purely regarding the hardware in case that passed you by. Cost should always be a factor but thats so obvious it shouldnt need saying. Or should it ?

Lol, that tickled me, thanks :D

Let's say you could get a S9+ and a Note 8 for the same price, which would you choose ?

I still can' decide, I've always had Note phones since the Note 3, obviously the S9+ is newer tech.
