UK newsstands will sell ‘porn passes’ to verify ages under new laws

Would it be available through the OcUK shop - free Haribo with every purchase...

Phase out haribo and give out free passes. GPU sales would go through the roof just so people don't have to tell Kumar at the corner shop what they're doing that evening :D

So what are they going to do about sites like Reddit? They surely won't block access to the entire site over this and I can't see Reddit being particularly interested in implementing an ID system for the 18+ areas.

Well Reddit is the go to source for on the move smut since UK mobile phone companies want proof that your over 18 even though they credit check you before selling you a smartphone with a stupid contract that you have to be 18 to sign....

Or 4chan, piratebay, etc lol

They are going to achieve the opposite of what they intend and that is forcing it underground and out of their reach.

I don't see what they can do about any company/website that doesn't have a UK presence.

I mean suppose some random country in Africa decided they want age verification on any site selling high end computer gear, I doubt OCUK needs to care.

So - as with most UK digital policy - ill thought out, unenforceable, targets the wrong people and therefore: pointless.

It'll just be the case of blocking the site(because it's a proven method :D). There was mentions of fines iirc but I don't see how they could enforce them.

Could be a good marketing opportunity to be the first to not comply.

Its quite funny watching the uk try to censor the internet more and more, First they tried torrents and hit isps with court orders to block.. Yep i can circumvent them in seconds. Seems UEFA has gotten a blanket ban via isps this year too to order any immediate site blocks they deem fit with likely a severe lack of evidence.

But then they target adult material.. For what reasons other than to tax us? Whats the pron industry worth globally a year? Billions? Why are they damaging an industry which isnt actually making anyone loose money like they claimed torrents was.

To protect children?

Honestly if this idea stood a remote chance of hiding porn on the internet from children I'd be all for it.

It's a good idea just the implementation is flawed just like most(all?) government IT endeavors.

Me too. It's clearly the thin end of the wedge. And porn is bing used because most Telegraph/Mail types would rather vote Corbyn than admit to watching porn.

It's a typical abused of government power led by public shaming and peer pressure.

The irony of course being that there's seemingly a line and porn falls on the negative side whilst having the nanny choke you unconscious whilst you're dressed as a toddler is a good wholesome Friday night.

I think that applies to most UK policy, digital and not. Alan Sugar comes to mind when I think of both the government and the opposition - "You haven't got a clue. Not a bloody clue."

The government are urinating in the wind.

They are trying to fry a shark in a 6inch frying pan, its not going to work period.

I been on the net over 20 years and know every workaround to anything this stupid country can try to stop. Idiots to say the least.

getting fed up living here what with the sugar tax / proposed banning drinking straws and cotton buds

now expected to buy porno access card from the newsagent wtf

awful!

It'll be alright just invest in a trench coat and hat and try not to scare any kiddies buying Teletubby magazines.
