Which Ryanair cabin bag?

Thanks for posting this - I'm going to be using ryanair in a few weeks and wasn't aware of this new restriction.

I've got no problem with the carry on bag being put in the hold given it doesn't cost extra, but the main thing is knowing in advance to pack valuable items separately in a small bag which I'd rather have with me in the cabin.

To be honest, I consider it a "net good thing":- More overall luggage allowance; less faff vying with fellow passengers for locker space; opportunity to split out just the stuff wanted for the flight from the stuff stuffed into the cabin bag but not needed until the final destination.

Having given it some more thought the £6 Decathlon "packable man-bag" ticks the boxes:

Cheap
Not bulky
Easy to pack into larger bag (like a packing cube)
A flat pocket for documentation (albeit pretty rudimentary)

What would be funny would be to have 5 of these (1 for each of us) that then zip together into one big rucksack for easier transport.

terrible airline, and i haven't even flown with them yet!
i checked in on the mobile app, and they put two of us at complete opposites of the plane, EVEN though there were clearly seats together on the seating plan.
i had to pay to sit beside my travel partner, complete ****house company

also the baggage thing, i'm taking a smallish backpack, but hoping they will let me take it on and put under my seat. i'm not paying even more money for their 'priority' baggage.
hopefully there is a bit of common sense from them, otherwise i'll have to put everything i need in a plastic bag or something.

How much did it cost to reserve your seat? And how much more money was the next available flight with an alternative airline?

Haven't used RyanAir in a while, but if this means no more ******* trying to stuff a massive trolley in the overhead compartment, damaging my stuff and holding up the boarding process, I think that's a massive improvement and might use them in the future for short trips.

As Ryanair had no seat allocation, when boarding was announced, it was like the California Gold Rush, when I did get to the plane, there was shouting and swearing, and threats of violence, as families couldn’t get seated together, kids were crying, the F/As we’re trying to calm people down, and appealing for people to switch seats.

To be fair, this was a stupid idea they had at some point that all seems abandoned now. I remember a few flights myself like this so I'm not shocked they dropped the idea with the issues it used to cause!

That policy is easily the best one that Ryanair has come up with - it's genius! Anyway you're not going to be away from your travel partner for that long - I'm sure you can handle a couple of hours? Or simply do what a lot of people do and move seats when you're in the air. You've also seemed to have got confused, they don't charge you to put things in the hold at the gate. This is a free service.

I still don't understand what people are taking on the plane they can't be without for a few hours.

i don't mind the baggage thing really but i've never been separated from a flying partner when we've booked together, with other airlines.
it's a clear attempt to manipulate people and make a quick buck
it's a longer flight too so yes i want to sit beside them

Yes, okay, so you decided to pay to sit next to your partner. £3 ish? But how much more money would it have cost you to fly with an alternative airline which automatically sat you next to your partner without you needing to pay for a specific seat?

Well of course it is, but it's not like they hide the fact. You didn't read the website, you can't blame Ryanair for that!

yeah it's clear but why do it? put people together if the seats are available. if seats are filling up then it's fair enough. they weren't when i checked in.
it's an abuse of peoples desire to sit together.
i had to pay close to £7

An abuse! Hah! Pull the other one. You didn't have to pay anything, you decided to pay that to receive a service.

I wonder how many people pay it, let's say 20%. That's £8.61million extra based on £3.50 a seat. That's why they do it. They don't hide the fact you won't be together, they hardly charge a lot to select a seat (again, how much is a ticket from someone who sits you together?) and you can move once you're in the air. You do realise you don't get free food or drink as well right?

As you can tell, my mind boggles when people complain about Ryanair. There's a reason your flight ticket is £9.99!

It's the hand luggage issue,I will have one bag in the hold and 2 hand luggage suitcases,I'm not paying more for hand luggage when other airlines are free.

What size are your hand luggage bags? They'll allow you two for free. Just depends on the size though. One will be stuck in the hold and you'll be able to take one on board with you. As per:

Your small bag (e.g. handbag, laptop etc.) must not exceed 35x20x20cm and should easily fit under the seat in front of you.

Your second 10kg bag must be 55x40x20cm in size and must fit into the sizers at the gate before being tagged and put into the hold free of charge.

Okay yes. So you've bought two tickets (2x), and then spent £7 to sit together. Your total cost is (2x) + 7.

The point is that Ryanair flights are usually dirt cheap! So tell me, if you were to have avoided Ryanair for your flight, how much would the same flight have cost you with an airline which let you sit together for free? Probably a fair amount more than the (2x) + 7 you've paid.
