Lush Anti police Marketing fail

I guess the store is fairly niche and targeted at SJW types who are into animal rights etc.. so the whole anti-police message probably isn't going to do too much harm with that crowd.
You need only search twitter for #spycops to see there is a hard-core of support but seemingly mostly from people who were already actively following the inquiry anyway

I never got the whole issue other than some people seem to be severely butt hurt that they were caught out breaking the law by clever police work.

People feel (understandably) betrayed that they were in multiple year relationships with undercover police officers along with what they're describing as sexual and psychological abuse. I can see where they're coming from, it must be a huge shock to the system to learn you've just been used for years so police can get at someone else and then they vanish without a trace.

I wouldn't say it is niche, they have high street stores everywhere and are a usual 'go to' place for birthdays/mothers day etc. I've shopped there a lot in the past for gifts but will be avoiding in future.

Surely that's just an advert for ensuring you truly know someone before getting on your back?
In ordinary life how many relationships have one or more of the members going in with less than noble intentions? Sadly its a part of human nature.

Well lol, no.

The officers are paid for by yon government to deceive these people, said government just passed an abusive relationships bill that calls for action by yon police to stamp out yon abuse.

So either the Police are exempt from causing abuse, or they are not.

There's a difference when it's deliberately state sanctioned and is impacting people who aren't the targets of the investigations.

It's definitely an issue worthy of the inquiry. How much collateral damage should be acceptable?

Rape by deception is actually a law.

But I belive its more for things like agreeing to wear a condom then sneaking it off etc.

I know claiming to be a millionaire etc is not covered by it.

The 'deception' for a rape (or other sexual offence) has to be relevant to the nature of the 'act' itself not the general status of the parties involved ...

Examples....

Naive female has sex with a man who says it will improve her singing voice - offence commited as the 'act' has been misrepresented

Trans female to male individual (pre op) has sex with a (biological) woman penetrating her with a prosthetic penis whilst purporting to be a (biological) man using an actual penis - offence conmitt as the 'act' has been misrepresented.

Man doesn't use condom after permission given for sexual intercourse on the express condition that he did wear one - offence committed as the 'act' is misrepresented....

Man claims to be a millionaire, football player, astronaut, not a police officer etc to have sex with another person - not an offence as the 'act' has not been misrepresented....

If you changed this in law then you would open up adulterers (who don't tell their respective partners about the other) and woman lying about birth control to prosecution....

You can also be prosecuted if you mis represent who you are for a specific person the victim would consent to sexual activity with .... I. E

An identical twin gets into bed with his brothers partner and has sex pretending to be the partner - offence commited

Or man slips into mates bed with mates wife in the dark and pretends to be mate to have sex with mates wife - offence commited.

Its not really about saying "not a police officer", who would care to ask about that anyway?

It's about lying to someone on the public coin, just to potentially get to someone else in their circle of friends, that's psychological abuse. In fact i believe it's called gas lighting.

Youre assuming that its classed as abuse.

Along with GDPR, i imagine it's become impossible for the Police to do anything substantial.

GDPR doesn't apply to police investigations or enforcement ....

Law Enforcement Directive
But as you will be aware, things are a little more complex around policing. The GDPR does cover personnel records, and any non- policing activity, but it does not cover the use of personal data for law enforcement purposes.

The law enforcement directive is far less restrictive then GDPR

All undercover work involves lying to people on the public coin and its a pretty essential policing activity...... You can't have undercover police work if the cops can't lie about who the are and what their intentions are.

Except its innocent people they've conned, there's no justification for that, ever.
