Nvidia CEO says next gaming GPUs won't come for "a long time"

Apparently from that article the excess inventory is quite large,ie,one OEM apparently sent back 300000 Pascal GPUs to Nvidia. I wonder if they over-produced Pascal cards due to the mining demand? It would make sense for them to delay the next GPUs,until they sold off excess inventory and its not like AMD is exactly pressuring them currently either.

All Mr Leather Jacket Man is saying is, they are stuck with a lot of old inventory, they have no intention of lowering their prices to sell them quicker, so therefore it could be a long time until new cards come out :P

So, flood the market with cheaper current gen GPU's? or trickle out to maximise margins? Depending on what class of OEM boards that have been sent back ofc.

Probably delay the next gen for a few months, and also trickle them out. Its still rather a shame we could get better GPU deals in late 2016 and early 2017 though.

Edit!!

I wonder if the new GPUs would have been released by now if it wasn't the case.

well considering for over a year people were scremaing blue murder about the lack of GPU supply and why aren;t Nvidia and AMD doing anything about it it would seem that Perhaps Nvidia were doing all they could and it has now come back to bite them.

While this is a logical reason for a delay, there is no real indication there is any delay in any case. Nvidia never gave a release date or roadmap, and all rumours have been vague.

If we assume there was a delay, and the delay was due to excess inventory, then we would expect the prices to be somewhat lower to shift stock. Prices have really just returned to normal. Perhaps even at MSRP the cards are selling fast enough that nvidia is not worried.

Nvidia would also have the option of simply selling pascal cards on the cheap when the next gen was released.

Ye amd used to have crappy drivers and now they have good but its draghing them down. Opinion that is
They actually didn't. It was a myth that AMD had any sort of driver issues worthy of the reputation they ended up with. NVidia are the ones with the history of bad drivers. They've had multiple class action lawsuits taken out against them specifically because of poor drivers.

And yet opionion is that AMD got crappy drivers compare to Ngreedia. I am wrong or right ??
NV got 1 MASSIVE advantage over amd... Marketing they can sell polished turd to masses AMD cant sell superrior product at lower price in comparisson no matter what they try to do.

so they artificially inflated the price of there card blaming supply issues when they had stock all the time. nice way to treat your customers....

Or the exact opposite happened and demand was outstripping supply. One of these scenarios is realistic , the other scenario would also require AMD to be blaming supply issues while artificially inflating prices.

One of these scenarios is much more believable than the other.

That is basically it, like Apple NV can sell crap to anyone and the masses fall for it.

Fact is, AMD have good drivers, have had for a while now and compared to intel and nvidia arguably currently have the best.
Other things about amds cards that they get a lot of stick for.

Vega is slow. No its not, vega 56 is generally faster or competing with the 1070 and 1070ti. 64 is competing well with the 1080
Vega is hot and noisy. No they aint, the reference cooler aint bad and the stock vega setups from AMD dont run noisy at all.
Vega uses tons of power.. Nope again not true. Yes they use more than nvidias cards they compete with but not by huge amounts. Ok overvolt and overclock they can, but the secret to a fast vega is undervolting which really helps.

Now the moans that are fair enough.
Vega is too expensive. Yes thats fair enough but thats more the fault of memory being too high and mining. Nvidia also get hit by this to a lesser extent.
Vega is having to use a much larger die size to compete with nvidias smaller chips. Yep this is fair enough as well, i suspect vega was supposed to be on a smaller process when designed at the beginning.
And a few other things like primitive shaders or what not that vega is having trouble with.

At the end of the day vega is ok, its not epic but its alright. It gets blasted by idiot nvidia arse lickers all the time for a lot of undeserved issues. Sure its not been as good as we hopped but then Pascal has areas that could be improved as well.

my last card purchase physx played a massive role. this was back in november 2014 when i got my 980. look at games like the batman arkham games or borderlands 2 and physx is a huge gamechanger and a far bigger improvement than just upping the resolution or a few extra fps. Sadly due to it being nvidia only it never took off like it would have if it had been open.

I suppose physx is not really a big deal now, and even games which did once support it seem to be moving away from it such as warframe.

Lol. Well if they end up wanting £700 here, I will just get the 1170/2070 and wait for the 1180Ti/2080Ti. If they want more than £450 for the 1170/2070 might skip that too now that I got a 980Ti recently which mean I can play 95% of my steam library at max settings at 4K anyway.

Bloody Nvidia with their disgusting pricing, let’s hope the rumours are not true and they are not that greedy and stupid. If they continue trying to rip us PC gamers off, I will likely go back to AMD Freesync for my next monitor upgrade in a few years time once OLED ones come out. By then AMD should have a proper 4K graphics card one would hope.

I'd bet on it being Nvidia that leak these fake prices so that when they announce the new card/s & tell us they're only £650 everyone breaths a sigh of relief and thinks they've dodged the bullet & got a fair deal. On mass the consumer gets dumber & we're expected to pay Titan money for mid-range cards,
They're going to kill PC gaming because of their greed.

Vega might not be "Slow" but it was very late (almost a year an a half late) if it was released in the same quater as Pascal it would not be seen as slow to nealy the same levels as it came after even the 1080ti.

"Stock vega setups from AMD dont run noisy at all" what does this mean ? The stock cards are loud and to quiet them down you heat a huge heatsink, Vendors that use similar heatsinks and fans across there pascal and vega cards show vega cards still running hotter at higher RPM's

Vega dos'nt use a tone of power ? an extra 1/3 or more power is not a a huge amount for the same performance ?

Less said about the Pricing issues (pre mining boom) the better with the rebate prices and the real prices.

"nvidia arse lickers" classy, really helps your case.

Vega should be criticised, its somewhere around R600 (2900xt) and Rankine (Geforce FX) levels of Screw ups. Fermi/Tesla/Fiji while had issues had much more to show and screwed up less.

edit: god my typing skills today are horrid

There's no doubting (except by AMD's superfans), that Vega is inferior to Pascal in all/nearly all metrics. (Gaming metrics; don't give a **** about mining, thanks!)

There is no reason at all to buy Vega when's it's priced higher and offers less.

In the card form anyway, scaled and clocked down as we seen in the likes of the 2200G and the new Intel Nuc its not a half bad product!

Yep, I would not put anything passed that company to be honest.

You just reminded me, where is Flopper or whatever his name was :p
