Girls banned from Wearing Skirts in 40 schools who instead adopt Gender Neutral uniforms

Gotta love the irony.

Please feel free to express your individuality as long as you wear exactly what we tell you to.

And i agree about offices, i mean what is the point of suits? In a closed office it would make the most sense to let people wear what they felt comfortable in and enjoy the productivity boost of people who's focus is on their work not how damn warm their suit is.
Esp when, like ours, it's unbroken glass on all four sides, and there's no air con.

It's annoying in winter too, when we're just about comfortable in suits with no heating, but the girls want the heating turned up so it's not too cold to wear a summer outfit, like a skirt and short-sleeved blouse :p

40 out of 24,000 schools and suddenly the country is going to fall apart? I would worry a little less about what schoolgirls are wearing tbh...

Can't stand having to wear trousers at work.
Boys and girls should be able to wear trousers/skirts/shorts.

I don't have to wear a tie at work but have to bring a change of clothes for lunch (due to going outside) as the heat is too much.

Is time clothes became less important.

And ties.. Don't get me started on those. What a strange thing

I for one am very offended and plan to take a two pronged approach with both a strongly worded letter and an awareness campaign fundraiser.

Girls should be allowed to wear trousers if they want but it ought to be out of choice - likewise if boys want to take the skirt option then they should be able to go for it... that would be a better gender neutral policy, keep the existing uniforms and give a free choice within the uniform constraints with no discrimination on the basis of gender.

To be honest with you'd I'd happily wear a kilt

But girls have done that since forever without a problem. Back when I was at school they used to hitch their skirts up so high you could see what they had for breakfast.

I'm not sure whether you're trying to use that in support of or against the OP's article.

I don't believe you're even close to countering what he actually said.
And you'd be wrong in that, it precisely counters what he actually said which was
treason because these clowns are bringing about the nations downfall. The purpose of an education system is to educate
In what way are these "clowns" now not meeting that purpose? How are they not still educating? How are girls who wear trousers to school any less likely to be "captains of industry, science and technology" than ones allowed to wear skirts?

Also by that logic the school could impose any dress code it liked and still pass your test.
"So what if boys must now wear eye-liner and lipstick? Are you saying boys can't learn whilst wearing eye-liner and lipstick?"
No, that would you your logic. You could clearly and obviously argue that being forced to wear lipstick and eyeliner would be upsetting to boys and thus disruptive of their education. In this case however we're talking about trousers, and women and girls already wear trousers. It's not a big deal.

This whole pan-institution attempt to legitimise being "gender-fluid" is beyond ridiculous now.
OK, we get it, you don't like trans people. Maybe they make you feel icky or something, fine whatever, that's your choice and right. It would be quicker if you just said that however, rather than pretending to care about school uniform policy at a small number of schools, none of which you attend.

I'm not actually against the idea of gender neutral uniforms.

Its not even (in my view) particularly pandering to the trans lobby. Trans people, particularly trans women, don't so much resemble women half the time rather a caricature version. By saying to everyone you have to dress in the same, rather de sexualised, manner you restrict the ability of people to 'indivualise' their look and enforce a degree of conformity that I beleive is a good idea within a workplace or school setting.

The most hilarious thing is how worked up some of you are getting over something that is basically the dictionary definition of a non-issue. :D

I'm of the utterly ludicrous opinion that there should be a formal option for Men in hot weather that isn't a skirt, perhaps shorts?

Same here. I can't help thinking that's the real issue behind this.

Does anyone know what these schools' policy on boys wearing shorts is/was before all this?

Bonkers that they have banned girls wearing skirts, so they aren't allowed to make a choice, seems fair.

All those losing their minds about it being a "non issue" have got it wrong, it is a problem, they are forcing girls to wear trousers.

Surely it is not a problem for them to have the option of both a skirt or trousers should they wish or be that way orientated that they identify as a boy.

What is utterly hilarious is watching schools trying to deal with all this whilst still sticking to their archaic principles, as mentioned already "You are free to express yourself however you wish and we welcome that" BUT "You must wear what we tell you to", it's not representative of the world they will experience at all. These headteachers/governors who make these decisions are dinosaurs.

It's amazing how I'm 38 but already feel like some kind of Granddad who grew up in a different age.

Our society has never been so morally corrupted in one sense (people willing to have sex on a TV love Island as millions look on). While all around us hierarchy and tradition is being replaced in favour of a nanny culture where the individual is paradoxically held in the highest regard, yet at the same time subjugated to ensure they stay equal.

I'm not sure what mixed message young people must get from all this but I really hope it's just a phase and normal service will resume soon.

The best is when people work for example back room jobs like admin or something or telesales and they have to wear suits even though they never meet customers face to face....

As someone who is very nearly 37, I agree 100% with you!

No wonder kids are getting so confused with their gender at such a young age these days.
