Your pet peeves at work?

Or similarly when the phone rings and you leave it because you’re on lunch, somehow you are the villain.

This is my life, Work 8-4 yet as they provide me a phone im expected to answer round the clock. If your on break and miss a call or in a meeting they just phone your superior moaning. Its a horrible system with phones

Yeah when you are off work you are off work, unless they pay you for taking the calls then I wouldn't bother.

They do not, Im on 8 days off and iv had 2 phonecalls and as i didn't answer they was followed by snotty emails. I believe the assumption is as im on paid holiday i should still be answering calls/emails

Popping chewing gum
Banging spoons against cereal bowls (in fact, eat breakfast at home!)
Constant coughing (visit the doctors)
Moaning about a work problem without doing anything at all to fix the problem
Taking an hour to eat a small bowl of mixed fruit and yoghurt....I mean seriously, an hour?
Not having the mental capacity for thought:-

Why are you eating a protein flapjack
because it's on offer and 1/2 the price of the normal one (and tastes better as its lemon)
Yeah but you don't work out
but it's 1/2 the price of the normal one (and tastes better as its lemon)

and oh another one. Picking fingernails and throwing them under a nearby desk

Aircon Nazis. I am sick of certain staff moaning about the office being too cold lately, when they are wearing strapless dresses, short skirts and sandals. For those of us not fortunate enough to be able to wear scant clothing (ie the blokes) a warm office is a nightmare in this weather. Zero breeze comes via the windows. If you are cold, you can easily throw on a cardigan. If you are overheating, you can't very easily cool down.

Loud chewers/noisy edibles. I sit directly opposite a girl who does little but eat breakfast bars, crisps all day, along with the general cacophony of people eating breakfast cereal, apples etc. I have a trigger for noisy eating anyway, but seriously - if you want breakfast, have it in the breakout room where the kitchenette is. The rest of us don't need to listen.

Man (or Woman) after my own heart. I understand the odd snack at your bench. I even understand the busy manager who might not have time for a break. But others who are allocated a lunch time should just bloody eat at lunch.

Can you tell it's a sore subject for me? I understand it's just how people are and it's my own problem but I do get irrationally annoyed about it lol. I can't even explain why!

I will say though, that my collegues who sit near me are really good about it :)

Age discrimination, much?

Yes, more than much....LOTS!
It mainly is born of the fact that most of them are either SJW's or ********** or as we lovingly call them in the office....

The protesticle generation, because a good protest right?
We have one good lass who is 22 and doesn't have any of it, she is great and doesn't think the world owes her a living.

Oh did I mention I'm the Operations Manager for all of em! :D

When some people talk about the younger generation I just don't get it as I'm not and my friends are nothing like that. Then I realise I'm now old and they aren't taking about people my age. :p

Are you applying this "logic" to all under 30s or just the ones in your office?

Lol there's a guy at work who has a bowl of weetabix with fruit every morning, and it literally takes him 2 hours to actually finish it, obviously by that point it's a nasty room temperature bowl of mush :D

That one person who adjusts the thermostat because HE is too hot / cold when everyone else is perfectly fine. Then has the nerve to get stroppy and ask what you're doing if you go anywhere near it.

As mentioned, wet spoons in the sugar. Even more annoying when I put some sugar on my porridge and end up with coffee in it.

People who cant rinse a spoon off after making a drink and just dump the teaspoon on the side.

People who wee on the floor and toilet seat.

That one greedy fat fatty who shamelessly devours over half of all the cake / biscuits someone has bought in for their birthday for everyone to enjoy. There were 8 doughnuts in that box for everyone to have David, do you really believe its acceptable that you've eaten 6 of them?!

Jobsworth management butt kissers!!!

phew! I feel better already :p

Work in an office with ~300 people in 3 close buildings, two offices and one a factory & warehouse of sorts. The tannoy constantly going off for x person to call x extension is frustrating. If they're not answering their phone, they're not available. It can be so annoying and utterly pointless outside of the people working on the factory floor. who don't have phones but that area alone is not large enough to warrant it. It's not like a supermarket where there's no other means of communicating with someone without having to find them personally.

Loud people. The main office is open on both floors, the upper floor is like a balcony over the ground floor so you just have constant noise all day and your ears pick out certain offenders. For a web developer it's a little frustrating. I am allowed to wear headphones however music + background sounds can make it even more distracting. I've worked in open plan before and it's never been much of an issue aside from an old colleague who couldn't stop himself making obnoxious noises, but this place just gets to me, so last week I handed my notice in. Can't wait to be somewhere less corporate.

People that play the system. We all know the types...

They hate their job, so will play any card to get some time off. Sick, stress... it's never a week, it's always 6 months at full pay. As soon as there's talk of money dropping they're back in...
