Facebook fined by toothless data watchdog

But the comment wasn't about the other parties, it was about the regulator applying a fine to Facebook. The OP posted his opinion that they're toothless and in this context it is quite easy to see why he holds that view. I don't know why you're putting in so much effort to try and conflate the matter or argue against the OP simply voicing an opinion.

Jeez why do you find it so hard to understand simple words in combination.

The OP said, you know the thread title, "Facebook fined by toothless data watchdog" maybe less words will make it easier "toothless data watchdog"

He was wrong, and you are wrong arguing this, they are far from toothless, the penalty relating the level of the breach they saw was capped, the other penalties they have available for more serious breaches are far from toothless.
If they believed the failing was more serious they could have taken further action, such as forbidding facebook to process UK citizens data, as they are the experts you would have to say they consider the penalty in line with the offence or they would have taken a different angle.

Shame it wasn't a fine under GDPR (which I think is actually per user affected, so can be an insane amount) or it would have stung. Zuckerborg probably spends more than 500k getting to work.

It's like going to Thailand or something as Brit, getting pulled over for speeding and thinking ****! The policeman has his serious face on. But the fine is £3. Phew.

It's an opinion and he's not wrong, prior to GDPR it is perfectly valid to call them toothless with regards to big companies. A fine of 500k is tiny for a company like Facebook, you don't seem to grasp that, it is quite a simple point and a valid opinion to hold. As for understanding simple words just look at your first reply in this thread where you talk about them not being toothless because this fine is about as high as they go, ironically therefore just reinforcing the point you're arguing against.

I grasp it, but its still wrong.

Your fixated with they applied for that specific offense, where they have significant powers that no company on the receiving end would consider toothless.
If he had of picked better words he may have been right, no amount of mental gymnastics will make them toothless.

Do you want to argue that if facebooks failure had been more serious that being told they cannot process any UK citizens data would be toothless. It would literally mean facbook would be dead in the UK, pretty significant for a company that is based on data no?

Anyway I didn't realise I had somehow stumbled into GD, I won't upset the locals again ;)

*sigh* it is the size of the fine they can impose relative to the size of the company being fined that is being commented upon. You chose to pick an argument over it while completely missing the point and now you're putting effort in to try and conflate the argument when frankly the point still stands. Way too ironic for you to make a comment about GD given you've chosen to argue over someone's use of a word in a thread title.

Lol :)

Your so funny you really crease me up at times

Pedant will pedant but still miss the point ;)

Not really, you're just trying to conflate things with this nonsense about shutting down Facebook etc...

They imposed the maximum fine, it is a relatively tiny amount for Facebook to pay, ergo the OP has referred to them as toothless. It is a simple and valid opinion and you've chosen to argue it over several post.
