Xbox One X

What's peoples thoughts on MS and Razer working together to have keyboard and mouse support for the Xbone by the end of the year?

When it comes to multiplayer apparently it will be left to the devs to whether they separate keyboard/mouse players from controller players by matchmaking based on controller type.

I think it's a terrible idea, what I like about consoles is not having to be sat at a desk etc and I don't want to be forced into using a keyboard/mouse just to be on a level playing field... there's no way matchmaking based on controller type will work.

If this does happen and there is no certain split of gamers I can't see myself buying another Xbone multiplayer shooter. If I want to play with keyboard/mouse I'll play on the pc.

Interesting idea. It depends on how well kb/mouse control is implemented. If it is just an official equivalent of XIM it will be pretty poor and uptake probably low. Advantages would also be low due to latency etc.

However, if mouse and kb controls are properly implemented it could be a game changer for people like me who struggle using pads. That said I dont think it would be fair to pad users then, as pc like mouse control is far more precise and quicker for the majority of people. Don't get me wrong there are some awesome pad players but I think most people would gain an advantage on kb / mouse over pad. On Cod AW I barely got positive k:d on console. On PC I was usually top 3, often MVP. Giving me and PC gamers like me proper PC controls in a game like that vs pad players would be pretty unfair.

I also cant see the player base being split either. This will harm the games chances overall.

So my guess is a completely gimped mouse / kb profile in game that makes using it pretty pointless.

But I would be happy to be proven wrong.

I think it is potentially a master stroke to attack the PC gaming platform though. A reasonably priced, stable platform with reasonable hardware that you can just pick up and play AND allows you to use kb / mouse........I'd certainly buy into it and I am sure many PC gamers would as well. Fewer hackers, less BS with crashes and tweaking, bigger player base - its win win.

I dont understand people who say they are unable to use pads or struggle, yet arent willing to practice. You think console players just magically were able to use them to their best ability straight off the bat.

Its laziness and I 'd rather such shallow people stayed on pc.

As for the dumb remark about special needs, kb+m is the easiest control method isnt it, controller is so hard to learn ? Thats why you cba? And were the ones with special needs?

I've been playing on pad almost exclusively since moving away from PC gaming and getting a console in december 2014. Hundreds of hours of gaming. Hardly lazy. Edit - having thought about it I reckon it's around 2500 hours.

Yet I still struggle with it. I'm better than I was but nowhere near as good as I would prefer to be. I just cant seem make my thumbs do what my brain wants somehow. It feels awkward and uncomfortable.

The odd occasion where I have played on my PC for a couple hours feels right. No awkwardness.

But then I was almost exclusively a PC gamer for over 20 years, so perhaps my pad skills will be OK in another 10 years or so. But I doubt it.

No excuse. I was solely a PC player back in the time of Barrysworld etc. Just sounds like you prefer kb+m. Not a crime. Sounds like you put some effort in. But there are better players than you with kb+m just like theyll be better players with a pad.

Struggling to see the logic of your argument really.

The fact I have tried for many hours to get better at using a pad is no excuse for still not being very good on a pad? Or no excuse that I am still better at mouse and keyboard than pad? Of course a player is always going to prefer to use what they are better at - and let's face it, consoles are the only platform to prescribe what can and cant be used in terms of control methods, which is one thing PC gaming has going for it, it allows people to use what works for them because not everyone is the same.

But I will say one thing - even though I suck on pads, I have never used a XIM and I haven't given up (yet). I just keep trying to get better but honestly at this point, after so many hours, I feel like I an flogging a dead horse. Ability feels like it has definitely plateaued.

Let me put it like this - I'm right handed. Playing with a pad is the equivalent of me trying to write with my left hand. I can kind of do it, but its clunky, untidy and not natural or intuitive for me. I have to concentrate a lot harder and the end results fall far short than if I write with my right hand.

Never been bothered about people better than me winning. What bothers me is I know I am capable at doing better but I haven't been able to transfer my mouse /kb skills to pad and I'm disappointed by that. Whatever the reason, pads just feel all wrong. Genuinely I think using pads is far, far harder than mouse and KB, at least it is for me anyway.

Yet I speak to some people who have the same issues learning mouse and kb as I do with pad. Go figure. To me mouse ad kb is the easier thing ever but for them it's hard work and they struggle.

If it's up to developers then I'll vote with my wallet. I won't buy any online shooter game where a developer puts me up against kbm players, the advantage is too great.

Pretty much my opinion too.

If they segregate kb+m from pad players then fair enough, but if it's mixed or there are easy workarounds/hacks then I'm afraid I'm out. The whole reason I most play multiplayer on console, is to know that pretty much 99% are all using exactly the same control method to even the playing field.

Fornite on ps4 doing just that, plug in keyboard and mouse and your playing against pad users.

No one is Complaining at all.

Halo 6 will be first game this will push, being available on both pc and console will be very interesting.

My view if someone plugs in keyboard and mouse into xbox they should just matchmake with pc player base.

Micosoft can also detect xim users now, but no action being taken at the moment.

PC vs console in same server has been around since the Dreamcast days. As I recall, in Q3 DC players got trashed in servers with PC players.

I suspect the same would happen today on any given online FPS game.

If player base is not split based on input method, then I imagine the server environment will be very toxic.

Anyone kicking ass will be a mouse hacker and anyone struggling will be a pad nub etc etc.

I prefer mouse kb as I'm better with it. But I also prefer a fair game and I just cant see how it can be with servers full of mixed input.

Also if cross platform servers are used I predict a ton of hacking as PC gaming is full of it. Will ruin the relatively safe haven of console gaming as a place to play on a level playing field.

I played Xbox 360 BF badcompany to BF4. Went Pc for battlefield 1 and got my back side handed to me. The level is just a lot higher when using mouse. I am good now but was a steep learning curve. I used to play a lot of CS back in the day and played BF1942 to BF2142 on pc so am no stranger to the mouse and keyboard.

Also console games have a huge amount of aim assist if that was removed it would be infuriating.

Is anyone else finding the interface really laggy and slow lately. Mine is getting really bad with big delays switching between menus and just generally moving around is so cumbersome and slow. Once in game everything runs perfect so it’s just the interface.

It's pretty much been that way since day one.
