1080ti vs 1080 vs wait

DX12 for WoW is just DX11 in a wrapper.

I just upgraded a system for a fried this weekend gone, from a 1060 to a 1070TI clocked to GTX 1080 speed, and you know what the bottleneck is? It's the pants old engine that is un-optimised for modern hardware. It runs like dog doodoo on Ultra (10 in the settings) and spending ages tinkering didn't help that much since the GPU was sitting at 60-70%, and the CPU around the same. Runs 100+ FPS in raids, and BG's, but certain parts like Dala, and flying over Suramar just made it nose dive to the 40's.

BFA is out 14th August, so I can understand why you might be eager to upgrade, but with WoW the best thing going it Adaptive Sync not pure FPS, since the game can't do it. Do you have a G-sync monitor?

WoW is CPU limited in cities. Crank up the Ghz, it makes a lot of difference.

Unfortunately not, VEGA is still in over supply with little demand in UK, but in other regions miners still demand it so for us our best is 64 at £499, do keep eye open as anyone with overstock will maybe just dump it and sell at a loss, were selling ours at cost based on support AMD gives and they trickle out, for us to drop further AMD will have to support more and currently they refuse to give more.
Thanks for the fast answer. Will get the card in France then. Thanks to the exchange rate it can get the sapphire pulse for 430 quid. Might buy again from you guys with Navi :).

Reading between the lines here, this might hint at the potential 11-series pricing...
Yep.

Did not see gibbo posting much when the cards were flying off the shelf. Now sales have relatively calmed down a lot and the new cards are coming out, we see him doing deals and marketing to get rid of his old stock. Well I hope so anyway, tired of the 10 series, let it die already. We want something new :D

SSD's have fallen in price massively, £79.99 for a 500G at OcUK. :)
PSU I shall get my buyer on the case, but a decent 600W or higher should cover a 1080 no problem, maybe grab 700W to have some headroom and make sure its Gold certified minimum.

Not related to SSD but will there be any drops on some SSHD? The 2TB?

Not so much due to the mechanical part of the drive have more a fixed price as such, by that I mean mechanical parts generally do not change in price so much.

The reason RAM and SSD can fluctuate and be so volatile is because it is NAND and NAND/RAM prices can have massive swings in price in very short time periods.

Ah makes sense! Cheers for info either way :)

1180 will be £649. So the 1080ti will drop in price.
Heck, even the 1170 will be faster. No-one bought the 980ti after the 1070 landed, unless 2nd hand.

For PSUs I always like overkill, I use 1200w and 1500w Platinum units in all my PCs which last for years, have low power consumption and best of all very rarely if ever spin up their cooling fans even in the very hot weather we are having now.

DX12 doesn't benefit Nvidia cards in WoW, that's why Nvidia cards default to DX11 and AMD cards default to DX12.

Damn, i really like the look of that ICHILL X4. Im guessing with so many fans, even the dinky one on top, it all runs quieter under gaming loads than a two fan configuration? (without pushing it to the 100% max that is)

And a 1tb SSD at £170, Very tempting.

That's a shame. The Powercolor V 64 is tempting and an extra few quid off would have done it for me.

We have a 1080 deal coming up Friday for a really high-end card, one of the fastest out the box actually, like nearly 2000MHz boost, also £50 worth of FREE games and will be like £470 :)

This Friday is "RED HOT FRIDAY" at OcUK, our own exclusive deals weekend a little akin to Black Friday with some really strong market leading deals and bundles, so keep ya eyes open for it. :)

A 1080 around £450 is money well spent, they simply won't get much cheaper if at all and 1080Ti will no doubt remain in the £650-£800 for the rest of year.

Looking forward to this @Gibbo :D:D Not so much for the GPU's but defo a PSU and anything else you can tempt me with!

I tend to agree with this. When a new series is on the way the old series can be had at bargain prices. When it comes to value for money the new series will not be good value at all, so really, unless you are specifically waiting for something the new series offers, then just raw value you are better going for existing technology. 1080's in particular can be had at good prices right now. No one knows what will happen in the mining community over the next six months, but one thing for sure that will influence prices more than anything, meaning you can't predict what is going to happen. The only thing you can say is that an 1180 is not going cheaper than a 1080ti now or later.

Yes, but a 1080Ti won't stay the same price if it is slower than the 1180, even if it releases at £799.

Unless you "have to have" a new card now, rather than just wanting one it's a dumb move to buy 2 year old tech at the MSRP or thereabouts when you know new tech is incoming imminently. A GTX 1080 at less than £399 would be worth while, but then you can get a GTX 1070Ti for £380, so that makes the GTX 1080 look average at best. The smart move is to wait to see how the release plays out, I hardly see the 10 series cards going up in price.

One point i dont think is raised, if you buy a 1080 now thats been sitting in a warehouse for 12 months, doesnt that effectively reduce your warranty by one year? I know that would be the case with one manufacturer, and thats a legit reason to consider for the long term.

I thought warranty usually started from the day of purchase?

Could those right on the fence, assuming they were fairly confident in something coming out in the next month or so, just buy an EVGA card and use the 'step up' program?

Warranty always starts from day of purchase, if you're buying from a retailer. How would that even work otherwise? Who knows how long something has been sitting on a shelf?
