Skull and crossbones wall mural in child's treatment room at hospital

This isn't a troll thread, indeed, I don't believe I have ever posted such a thing. I am annoyed that I did not have my mobile phone with me to take a snap... Also there were signs up saying no photography but then it was quite late at night so I would have got away with it.... I could nip back later but would run the risk that there could be a child being treated in said room which could complicate matters... Might be forced to though if people think I am lying about the whole thing.

Not to you perhaps, but to anyone with half a brain, this is drivel.

I assume it's just playing on the childish myth that there is a skellington inside of everyone, which was just a ploy by dairy farmers to have us drink more milk.

Need photos..... ;) I could probably let them have a Confederate flag to put in its place. But then some Somalian refugee would be saying where's the pirate thing gone, my kids love pirates :) Probably best to have a plain grey wall, someone will find offence in much anything else.

But how much are we willing to pay to a charity of his choice for said photos, that is the question.

Do you honestly believe this? I dont.

Children's A+E tend to be muralled up with characters and scenes from things they recognise and associate with. Show any 6 year old a skull and cross bones flag, and they think of "pirates!", not "Oh no! my own ill fated mortality".

Actually I don't know why I'm posting, this is like getting into an argument with Psycho Sunshine about window cleaners.

could have been worse, try this harmless gaming related one :D

Lol @ name change, as always, but I think most of you are being unfairly dismissive (classic ‘bully the OP’). Would a big skull frighten a young sick child? Maybe? Depends how it’s done, Shirley. In the context of being within a scene of jolly pirates finding treasure it’s probably fine.

Well I'm just saying that almost always the child will be accompanied by an adult and often it is the parent who needs calming down more than the child... Given the hospital environment the first thing that popped in to my head was death when I saw that particular room... Let me put it this way, did Patch Adams ever dress up as the grim reaper?

How does skull & crossbones = grim reaper in your mind?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolly_Roger

in a technical sense he is right, i mean the jolly roger (or whatever flag they were flying, every pirate had his own flag) was literally a psychological device to encourage ships to surrender by reminding them what would happen if they tried to put up a fight. even your link has a reference to bartholomew robert's flag which had an actual representation of the grim reaper on it....

it's only in modern times have we started glorifying these pirates (who lets not forget were a bunch of murdering thieves regarded by their contemporaries as scum) into this state where it's considered acceptable.

Does anyone think this is really inappropriate as being in a hospital it does make one's mind immediately think of death?
No, because it's for the children not us and they will just associate it with pirates and fun.

My school had Gollywog murals until some SJW complained a few years ago, the kids always loved them. The playroom at the artificial limb centre I used to go to had murals of Rainbow characters, Wombles, etc with missing limbs, they proberbly looked quite horrific out of context.

This is why context and target audience are important things.

Check if the depicted bones are male, female or transgender? that's far more important than anything else
