EDIT: More seriously, there's a difference between requiring people to be identifiable in certain locations for security reasons and blanket bans on wearing an item of clothing in public in general. The former is easily solved with little additional work by both parties if needed and I doubt many complain about it.

You jest, but speaking as someone who, a few winters back, removed their bike helmet but forgot to remove the balaclava (you forget you're wearing it after a while) before striding into the Halifax I highly recommend it. :D

That's the thing, walk in to a bank in a balaclava and you can guarantee someone will press the panic button as soon as they see you. But you could easily stick on a burka and they wouldn't bat an eyelid, even though you could have an AK47 under it.

There are these things called opinion polls, they're used to gauge public opinion on various matters... while they have their flaws at times (see Trump, Brexit etc..) they're not generally too far off the mark.
