Boris and the burka

I've been called a number of things in the past and I always get particular comments about my dyslexia at work. I've never been offended to the point I've needed to complain... People need to lighten up and stop using social media as a gateway for attention seeking.

You don't think calling people bank robbers simply because of what they wear might be offensive?
Yes, and if that had happened people would have been justified in taking offense.

However anyone getting offended at somebody using an analogy of students fancy dressed as bank robbers being asked to remove their ski masks when speaking to university staff, in comparison to a person in a Burka being asked to remove the veil when speaking with an MP one on one in their office, is simply looking to be offended for the sake of it.

Same, I’ve had comments and jokes regarding my disabilities, some quite sharp, but I don’t get offended. In fact, I laugh along as I’ve always said if you can’t laugh at yourself, you can’t laugh at anyone.

It doesn't matter if it is offensive to you. You don't wear a burka presumably so you have no needed to be offended by it.
If you don;t understand why some people who wear Burka might be offended then it says a lot about your social intelligence.
That says it all really, no one else's feelings matter.

How about I'm offended by these women assuming I'll rape them the instant I see their face? Maybe you could explain what it says about them?

There is absolutely nothing Racist or Islamophobic in his comments. Some may say it is not very 'politically correct' and that is as far as it should go. It is not unlawful to be non PC as far as I am aware even in this day and age.

Yes, but your example, and Huddy's, are specifically targeted at you, buy people you know. When someone makes a very public analogy about a group of people, that they KNOW will get some people riled up, it is a very difference instance to what you experience.

Hate speech laws are based around political correctness. The word Islamophobic itself is a ridiculous invention of the left as most peoples concerns around Islam are based on rational things like creeping sharia law, attacks on women, the idea of the Burqa itself, extremist Islamic terrorism. A phobia is an irrational fear. Yes I know not all Muslims are bad and a female muslim doctor has very sensibily spoke out against the Burqa and in support of Boris but as we all know the minority ruin it for everyone.

We're in a situation now where the definition of these terms is more and more in the hands of those who claim to be victims of it. Exactly the same thing with the Labour party and anti-Semitism, just because they don't use 100% the same definition as the IHRA, they get labelled anti-Semitic. It's all gone a bit mad.

Do people in here just go round insulting everyone all the time?

I find this is often the case with myself, it's a rare day I don't come across at least one idiot that doesn't get a bit of sarcasm thrown their way. And vice versa, I well recall being told I looked like "a pox doctor's clerk" in my new suit, and in hindsight the comment was sound. I don't recall getting all uppity over it though.
