Every society has created their own gods, but they've all been imagined (at least in my humblest of opinions, i don't care what people think about it) to explain fundamental processes of life. We've gone past the basics (pan-theism about the environment) and are currently in Creator/Maker theorem stage of which we've been in for thousands of years. If we as a society want to transcend our pitiful limited existence, then the easiest way is to synthetically move ourselves into machines... now what purpose does an imagined god have here? none.
But people will still want spiritual assistance, hey presto... here's Unit 00 to help you. By far any connected AI will be by definition all-seeing, all-knowing, whether it's benevolent or not is up to us. (proof - the Internet is a great space where literally everything about you is absorbed, whether or not it's accurate is well down to algorithm)
Disbelieve it all you want, but God sells like nothing else (the Vatican is profitable like all hell, and plenty of US pastors loveeeeeeeeeeee money) so it will happen if only for monetary satisfaction, probably out of Silicon valley, unless the Chinese realise it's benefits first as it'll likely need a custodian to administer it's uhh, abusive social engineering system.
