I play Elite and have tried Project Cars 2 VR, no performance issues![]()
I am doomed never to get a new card
with VR - ultra and full detail pn pCARS2 without hitting ASW all the time?
in which case your rig is performing much better than mine
I play on VR-medium and still have issues with ASW in ED in busy areas (ASW works ok on pCARS2 i suppose but not for ED imo)
but i digress, and am OT now... sorry OP!.
I'm desperate for a new GPU as I'm still running on an old Radeon R9 280. Also want to upgrade to 27" G-Sync monitor, so was aiming for a 1080. Hoping current prices drop a few more pennies before new cards arrive.
You are still with R9 280, which means you are on tight budget, yet you want to buy gsync monitor and 1080?
Maybe you should consider buy a Freesync monitor which are cheaper and use it NOW with the hardware you have?

Not good advice seeing as from AMD's own Freesync page.

Yeah I had to replace my R9 270 for the same reason. Presumably the 270s and 280s are rebrands of older cards and thus lack the hardware support needed. Not good advice seeing as from AMD's own Freesync page.

The price-conscious are gaming at 1080pThis is true if you game at 1080p... but for those of us with 4K TVs, 3 screens or those with VR hmds you really need everything you can throw at it if you want close to full detail.

If you game on a £3000 4k OLED screen you probably don't mind spending £650 on a GPU either.
Those of us moaning about the price of GPUs aren't the super-rich![]()
I'd rather keep gaming on a good 160hz, 1080 ultrawide screen than a 4k with 20ms response time tbh. That's high enough to make input lag really noticeable.
I think while consoles are still mostly running at 30fps (and even when they finally do 60 consistently), PC's and GPU's will always have a place. My son brought his PS4 Pro over recently and we spent some time playing God of War, Horizon and Monster Hunter World and while they looked beautiful (partly due to the OLED), I couldn't swap over to one. The motion blur on GoW for example was horrible and 30fps was just no thanks. I was glad to get back to my lowly 100hz LCD.
