Tractor on fast roads

the number plates in this video are very indistinct (intentional/utube translation/poor dashcam? ) otherwise could submit it to the police.
do the mid road marking have a defined gap, so that you could estimate speed ? (other than measuring that road specifically)

Ater earlier comments about flashing people it is less ambiguous than I thought, the oncoming folks have poor reflexes
Flashing headlights highway code
The Highway Code states: ‘Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.’

Please get off the road if you think others should give way to yourself when executing similar maneuvers.
WOAH, no need to be so cruel to the guy, mate... We should all follow his shining example and slow down, stopping if neccesary, in order to accomodate all the arrogant, aggressive self-righteous morons who think they own the road and can do whatever they like. That way there will be far more safe space for more people to openly drive like twonks. Granted it may increase your journey times by a couple of hours, since you'll be stopping every 30 seconds or so to either let oncoming traffic through or following traffic overtake you (at high speed, no doubt), but at least you'll arrive safely at your PC in order to teach others about safe driving... :p

By the time you'd counted, calculated and estimated, they'd be long past you. Far easier to just look at how quickly the car appears to be getting bigger and base your speed assessment on that.

Which is exactly what they're doing, although the exact wording is more like, "Hey, is he going to...? No, he's not, surely....? Oh *** he is!! OII MATE, CAN YOU SEE ME HERE COMING AT YOU, OR WHAT????!!!" ;)

I meant from the perspective of the police evaluating their speed in the video.
Oh that. Yeah, definitely.

few of them are ? which is what is confusing .. but maybe with auto-dimming/luminating lights people forget how
As I said above, dangerous overtakes like this are so common, people don't even bother flashing now. They just assume you don't want to die in a head-on and will get back on your side of the road in time.... and if not, that's what your insurance is for.

Hi all,
Just thought I’d give my 2 cents on this.
I am a farmer.

During the spring, summer and autumn we are very often working shifts that are up to 24 hours long when the sun is shining. In June and July I pretty much did an average of 16 hours a day and went 8 weeks without a day off.
Never having time to stop to eat so living off a micro meal before bed each night.

I hope this will help as to why we don’t wait for you all to get to work before we leave.
Of coarse when it’s wet and waiting for the dry it’s a different story.

Personally I try to pull over every two miles when safe to do so. This has to take into account pulling back onto the road, trust me acceleration is dreadful so takes a while.

During the winter most of my work is hedgecutting, I know there is nothing worse than finding a tractor on a blind corner but there was a sign saying I was there which nobody pays attention too. If there is no sign report him because it’s the law. I cut the roadside between 10am and 3pm and cut the field side during rush hour.

Unfortunately there is people who give the rest of us a bad name which applies to every vehicle on the road because they all have a human in control!

Sorry I’ve rambled on

The good thing about the long hours is I can now afford an ultra wide which I’ve needed for so long!

What's the law on this road in question is Sheffield parkway parts of which are 70mph, i noticed people rapidly slowing down and trying to switch lanes this bit is 50 mph he was doing about 20mph.

are they allowed on such roads ?

Never seen a tractor on the parkway but given how poor the road is, it reminds me of a farmers field.

Get out of here with your sensible response, how dare you try to justify inconveniencing the part time office squad

What is the legislation for tractor(&moving farm machinery) operating time ? ...tacograph monitors ?

Folks around here, during harvest, are dawn to dusk, with some night-time too, judging by the noise that carries

There is none, you can drive unlimited time. If you cause a crash and are unfit to drive I’m sure they would throw the book at you.

You can drive up to 32 ish tonne on a car licence. Size and weight apply to under 25s though.

They really do need to introduce some sort of ban to stop them going on roads during rush hour, or where the NSL is 60+.

The problem is that many of these roads have been built through the middle of these farms resulting in them having no choice but to use them. That said, such a slow moving big vehicle is an accident waiting to happen. What irks me more are the truck laybys on busy dual carriageways where I often see trucks stopped and reversing and in doing so blocking at least one lane. I beeped one a few weeks ago who was doing so on a blind corner and he got slightly irritated, so I beeped him again :D

I don't ask for much from tractors, just having your indicators on the trailer wired up the right way would be a good start...more than once over the years have I gone to over take a tractor indicating left to have it turn right in front of me...

I agree, working trailer lights and trailer brakes should be something that is better enforced. It can be hard sometimes due to the age some machines are kept till and the incredibly harsh environments they are in.
Personally I’m working through all of my equipment installing led lights which are sooo much better

This thread needs some comic relief.

A classic, from the days of sending people videos via infra red on your crappy mobile phone.
