Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Although that is true, it's almost a criminal offense to post it. Stirs up the hive. To be fair to Nvidia they have the egde in power consumption, but yeah AMD outperform Nvidia at every tier except the GTX 1080 Ti. Just don't ever say it, unless you don't mind the backlash of comments xD

There's even some of your skin on his latest jacket :D

I know, taking steps for penance and ask for forgiveness for my soul. Some day I could wash out the shame and be called a true AMD fanboy. :D
But that would take a long time, yet everything starts with the first step.

1080 was $599 and $699 for the founders edition.

1080-launch.jpg
There was no real availability to be found for the quoted $599 price at the actual launch though. That was almost just a MSRP for made up to be quoted by reviewers for the pre-launch review.

Almost all 1080 available at launch was around the same ballpark as the Founder Edition pricing.

There's people on this forum that say the complete opposite of whats been posted that generally have a pro AMD view and ignore anything postive about Nvidia. Its like they have some kind of agenda to push....
If someone was to point out the FACT regarding misleading/bait and switch that Nvidia pulled with the GTX1030 GDDR5 to DDR4 memory after launch, GTX 1050 3GB and GTX1060 3GB with sneaky cut-down spec, are they pro AMD, haters against Nvidia got some agenda to push, despite it is totally of Nvidia's own doing...?

I am not sure if there are many people actually "pro AMD", but it is more to do with lots of anti-consumer practices that Nvidia pushes that some of us feel the need to point out. People can buy whatever they want, but the important thing is they are getting what they are expecting for what they paid for. If someone on a tight budget and just starting out on the PC building scene, done their research and bought a GT1030 because reviews showing them that they are good enough for the games that they play and bought a GT1030 now, they'd end up a card that got less than half the graphic performance comparing to what's shown in reviews.

Nvidia sure make some great hardware, but dishonesty is pretty much part of its organisation culture now, from the lie about the GTX970 spec, misleading of cards I mentioned above, and also CEO openly telling us that the next gen Nvidia card is a long way away just so they can shift more stocks at higher price before their next gen launch no really that far away :p

There were a lot of custom cards available for preorder in the $599 to $699 range on launch day. Can't remember what was actually available for purchase on launch day though.

The situation was pretty much Nvidia telling the AIB partners to sell their cards for cheaper while launching their own FE card high at $699, but most AIB probably thought it made no sense for them to sell their custom cooler cards that are better than FE for less, so they follow suit and more or less priced around the same price range as the FE price range.

The joker 1080 card (the one with literal joke quality of with plastic shroud loud blower cooler with no vapour chamber) was the single lowest priced card that was sold at around £530 at the time, but it was still higher than the $599 MSRP plus VAT at the time as base on the exchange rate at the time it should had been around £480 inc. VAT.

Not sure what the situation was like over at the US, but all I remember was that us UK folks were definitely being shafted.

Vega 64 air here with water bios and blocks. Best stable clocks I can get (I mean proper 24/7 all apps stable) is 1750/1055.

Vega 64 is for sure a few percent slower than the 1080, but I got it for the price of a 1070 at the time so cannot complain.

2080ti I will pick up though I think.

Had all the cards, VEGA 64 is much faster than GTX 1080. Is just a fact. He's cherry picked one set of benchmarks prob at launch to back up his theory. Sadly it's not the case, but blind ignorance is a theme here. Which was the point of my post to begin with. (You cannot post pro AMD without backlash) The irony is not lost on me.

Moving on ... Real or not??

Those benchmarks are from a recent video as an update using the latest drivers for both cards. I guess there is fact and then fact depending on how you look a it.

Also, the GTX 2060 is looking to be a lil beast for 1080P / 1440P. Hell I might even be tempted for 4K as I don't need max bells and whistles anyway.

AMD need to come strong this time, if Nvidia launch the 2080 Ti' first. AMD face irrelevance in the PC gaming market if they cannot reclaim the top spot, as only the top spot is recognized by the majority of gamers..

We sort of have no choice but to support a monopoly, if there is no alternative. I don't know why so many enjoy the monopoly and high prices and praise Nvidia though. Such a strange mentality imho.

Nvidia have done really well in locking down the PC graphics tier. Absolutely ruthless.

100's of reviews and user benchmark threads say otherwise, ignorance is definately an Amd thing on this forum.

Just because a vega64 beats a 1080 at certain games makes it the bestest card in some eyes and if you can be arsed to faff about with volts and settings it beats a 1080ti in every game ever made, or not!

We sort of have no choice but to support a monopoly,

I mean, if we all just refused to buy the new cards at the price they are at. even for just a few weeks. The prices would come tumbling down. Guaranteed. Supply and demand.
But all over the internet with people screaming "TAKE MY MONEY NVIDIA" at RTX2080 leaks. THATS the real problem here, not AMD. We should, as a community come together and say enough is enough, we arent paying those prices. You would soon see them come down. But there will be plenty who preorder and buy on release. Confirming to Nvidia that they can charge what they damn well please.
