Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

If this new pricing is true, it's nearly as obscene as the justifications people are telling themselves for being prepared to buy it. I have the money but a reasonable price would have seen me buy at launch for the first time since the 670. As it is, it'll more than likely be a 1070ti direct from one of the manufactures for £410.

And more people get pushed into console gaming...

Only 1545mhz clock speed at boost. Don't get me wrong I know you can't really compare MHz access different architectures but still I am surprised. I was expecting up to 2500mhz under boost

Worth noting that Nvidia have said that the fall in demand from miners has been more than expected. Apparently miner demand is down 93% vs their predicted 66%. That may help pricing in favour of gamers. The FE cards are always decently priced IMO so will likely just pick one of those up at some point if/when I upgrade.
Suspect the main reason Pascal cards may go up is due to £/$, without looking at the conversion rates. Would seem a bit odd otherwise unless the new cards are rubbish at some things (mining? :p).
Not kept up to date on the latest ramblings/rumours. Hopefully all clear on Monday.
Find the RTX naming a bit naff to be honest. A nice feature for the future for sure but not sure why in the product name code. Going to use both GTX and RTX branding I wonder?

The main reason I can see for raising prices on old stock is to push people into buying the new, so they maximise their profits. If for example, the 1080 goes up to £550 and the 2080 will end up being available for £700, but betters a 1080ti, a lot of people will go for it due to perceived value and a lot of people will get the older card due to the price difference and lack of alternatives.

I empathise with people for who computing is their main hobby. They've been starved of a new GPU for over two years and so are very likely to pay whatever Nvidia asks of them, but that leaves everyone else in the position of having to pay massively inflated prices or picking on the scraps of any deals like Gibbo does.

In an ideal world Nvidia would have the foresight to see that all they're doing is accelerating the time when people will say enough is enough and actually price their cards appropriately (and if true, moving the 2080ti into the Titan bracket is nothing more than taking hte Michael out of people) but I guess greed is good.

Almost double the price of the 980Ti in just a few years.

I remember getting angry and refusing to buy the GTX 1080's and 1080 Ti's because the reference cards cost more on launch than my 980Ti's did.

Sadly I'm a weak willed bugger, and fed into the green beast. Too many are like me; and the 2080Ti, if it's pushing €1000 will likely still sell like hot cakes

Well if this is someone's main hobby, there's no way around it. Or if you have a decent job/life situation.
I mean there's nothing to be ashamed for :P
Not our fault AMD can't keep up.

Strangely, if the 1080 Ti is launched at the same time there's a little part of me a bit pessimistic over it. Not sure what but I suspect something may be a little disappointing, ie, is it more of an intermediate card? Is it a marketing ploy as everyone wants the Ti? Optimised Pascal with a bit of RT added? Just guessing though. Predicting closer competition from AMD? But one has to ask why would they do that? Is the Ti going to be the new TX so will be priced at that level? I hope there will be a more extreme TX gaming card

That's a little disingenuous. Massively high prices isn't the fault of AMD. Whether they could keep up or not, this is entirely down to Nvidia extracting the urine. They keep moving cards down a power bracket while rising the price up a bracket. AMD won't stop them doing that, they'll just increase their prices to match Nvidia's; we've seen it before. Also, it's not like people will suddenly go red after years of being green just because AMD release a faster and cheaper product.

This whole situation is greed. Greed from Nvidia and greed from consumers for their products. Only one of those things can people change, if they really want to (but we all know they don't).

The pricing is obscene, i bought two 1080 strix oc cards on release over 2 years ago for 650 each.
Still, i will get the ti at any price because... I wants it... My preciousssss

More PC gamers are leaving for consoles everyday. Pricing being the biggest factor.

Yep. I have one more upgrade in me. It was going to be potentially be a 20X0 card but after seeing that they are going to - if PNY are to be believed - far in excess of every previous generation price wise, I'll either go for a Vega or more likely, a 1070ti (because you can get them just over £410 including shipping direct from the manufacturer) and then it'll be PS5 all the way with its Navi goodness. PC will be the remit of strategy and indie games.

I'd say it's just capitalism, end of story :). Anyone running a business will optimise their profits. If you're in a good place (no competition) you'd of course push profit making further. We'd all do it, if we have any sense and want to keep our company ahead and shareholders happy. The more profits you make, the more risks and investmetns in R&D you can make in new products
Customer can buy or not. At the resolutions most of us game at, the 1080 Ti and even lesser cards are probably plenty sufficient for a while yet but we all want more power :).

It's greed. You can make money and keep shareholders and customers happy without rinsing them. No one is saying companies shouldn't make a profit but come on, can anyone honestly defend Nvidia here? We may even be in the situation where the 2080ti comes in at nearly double the previous gen version, for significantly less than double the power.
