Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Not sure why. If it only performs as well as a 1080 from the previous gen that’s about to be reduced to a similar price, I can’t see the point in the excitement.

Thought everyone was hoping it would be closer to 1080Ti performance for ##70 card money?

Yup exactly my point. RTX 2070 is a waste of space. Just get a 2nd hand 1080 until 7nm. This ray tracing is looking a lot like physx.

I agree. I presume if the rumoured prices and specs are correct the big gulf between the 2070 and 2080 will be filled by a 2070ti.

Not sure if lack HDMI 2.1 is a major issue - I don't believe that VRR is a mandatory part of the spec.
hdmi.org isn't clear on this point but reading the Q&A on 'Enhanced Refresh Rate features' suggests that products may have a combination of the features and it is dependent on the manufacturers implementation.
This does suck and I look forward to the day that we do have standard VRR widely available on gfx card & monitors - but not expecting this anytime soon. :(

Had my finger hovering over the virtual pre-order button since the leaks began but may have to wait for benchmarks now.

I only want a Ti if it’s at least >35% better than the 1080Ti. I’m only looking for a rock solid 4K@60 performance and coming up from an RX480 a new Ti will be a vast improvement but typically this was going to be the first time I’ve wanted to go for a top card and I will begrudge paying the Nvidia tax if it’s a lemon.

In fact if it’s not the usual serious generational performance hike, I just might not bother.

NVIDIA RTX 2070 Specs Leaked – 2304 Cores, 8GB GDDR6 at ~$400

https://wccftech.com/nvidia-rtx-2070-specs-leaked-2304-cores-8gb-gddr6-at-400/

Videocardz sources confirmed RTX 2070 will have 2304 CUDA cores and 8GB GDDR6 but performance is not at GTX 1080 Ti level, only just 8% faster than GTX 1080. When overclocked it could reach GTX 1080 Ti performance level.

The price is huge gap between $400 RTX 2070 and $700 RTX 2080 so a chip with GTX 1080 Ti performance level would be RTX 2070 Ti that do not exist yet probably until 2019.

Guess I will get RTX 2080 so I will have to wait and see.

If true, at least it has 8gb instead of the silly 7gb rumour. But who knows, it might be 7gb real ram and 1gb slow ram, just hidden better this time. Lol.

Shame about the performance. It needed to be faster. That being said it is still good that we will see a card that will be roughly between 1080 and 1080Ti performance for $400. That kind of performance was nearly double that price a few years ago when the 1080 came out.

It also means second hand 1080 price will plummet. £400 for a brand new tech vs a slower second hand old tech means sub £300 for a 1080 imo. But obviously that is my opinion before people get upset, as some do not mind paying brand new prices for old second hand stuff which is not my thing personally.

Another 970 owner here, was looking to this gen for an upgrade to be ready for a 4K TV. I'd expected an upgrade to mean moving from x70 to xx80, once again the gap between 70 and 80 looks narrow on paper (both 8GB?).

So a 2080 Ti would be 3.5 970 performance, at 1.6 the power, at 2.75 the cost.

The 970 did introduce HDMI 2.0 so I was expecting 2.1 this time round even if no TVs or AV amps support it yet. Also I'd expected 16GB VRAM - maybe the cost of DDR6 means that's for Quadro/Titan only before any refresh next year.

I really hope AMD has something to go up against these new cards, even 10-15% slower I would rather take a AMD card to be honest.

Asked Matt if AMD going to release Adrenalin drivers for the Vega 20, or our current option is only the Linux drivers.
He refused to comment.

How you calculated the power they need? 285W is at base clock. On GPUs that translates boost clocks you would be looking at 400W+
Vega 64 has base clock at 176W to put in perspective.

So way higher the 2080 ti than 1.6 power over the 970

if 2080 is only 8% faster than 1080TI, i cant see 1080TI dropping much in price, maybe around £370-£400.

I thought the general consensus was that prices aren't going to drop at all, but go up slightly? Gibbo has certainly said as much.

I know it means second hand should be cheap(er) but that isn't an option for everyone.

The moment where I need to decide to sell my 1080Ti now..or not

I always wait until as close to release as possible. And even then it’s hit and miss as you could be waiting a month or two for release and stock of custom cards.

Although unless it’s 20-30% quicker than 1080Ti I won’t be buying. I’ll wait for the 2080Ti.

Its worth getting if you want to sell up and wait a bit as you will probably get the upgrade for free. However the 1080Ti is still a hell of a card and plenty quick enough.

It is expected that the 2080Ti will be released tomorrow as well, so you might not have to wait long...

In two minds whether to bite this time as an upgrade from my R9 390. Wanted a card that could handle 4k 60 at at least high. Seems like that might be unlikely in which case do I wait, or grab a 1080ti second hand to maintain 1080 60 at ultra in new AAA titles?

See what the new 2070's are going to be like first, but s/h 1080Ti's might hit £400ish soon so a very good option if you have the budget :)

I've got the budget to go 2080ti at a stretch, but don't think I could ever forgive myself for spending that kind of money on a card TBH, want to keep below £500 if I can.

Might be unlikely? Based on all the leaks so far there should be zero doubts that the 2080 should be sufficient to go beyond those requirements and 2080Ti should be significantly better.

Agreed, if £1000/1100 is true then it's going to be very big jump over current pricing. 1080Ti at 400ish will be a bargain in comparison. Love mine :)
