Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Apart from the next Metro, in 2019 sometime. What other games will use Nvidia's proprietary ray tracing tech?

Will we need to buy an RTX, or will some games work with older 10* series card anyway?

Very confusing, wouldn't put it past Nvidia to lock all features out on anything except 2080* series, but wouldn't this irk a lot of 10 series owners?

It will be interesting indeed tomorrow! I hope we get benchmarks and all. If I'm sensible I'll get the 2070, can't make any promises though.

After the last few pages of comments I gather a lot of people think the 2070 will be a disappointing waste of time. I'm hoping for the best though and I will not be surprised if a high base/boost clock 2070 version matches a stock 1080Ti while still being cheaper with newer technology.

Frustratingly, if they copy the 10 series launch, they will only launch the high end 2080/2080Ti tomorrow and the 2070 will be launched in a month or so.

2070 I would image would be the perfect card as you are on 1440p. You get fresh new tech and a shiny toy to bench and play with and some boost in fps until 7nm comes out. But question is can you wait a month, or will you just say **** it and buy 2080Ti day when part financing Jensen’s next leather jacket? :p;)

Keep our eyes wide-open is all I could say when it comes to these new cards.

Try to ignore the naming game that Nvidia's playing, but carefully look at the reviews and the architecture and specs of the cards.

Nvidia has NEVER released a 80Ti card alongside 80 card together, so if the rumor of that comes true, don't just go and assume the new 80Ti is guarantee to be a full fat chip.

If the new 80Ti and the 80 is using the same mid-range chipset like 1070 and 1080 did rather than 1080 vs 1080Ti (big chip), then what Nvidia have done would be essentially be just name changed and pushing the naming up by one tier (again), and renaming chip are that supposed to be 70/80 to 80/80Ti.
Was 1080Ti the full fat chip? I thought that was the Titan Xp?

I think the new Tomb Raider game will be using it, but the number of games that have announced they'll have some form of ray tracing is in single digits. It's looking like hairworks all over again.

I expect the ray tracing will be impressive, but if it's only a handful of games for next year. Gives me pause on upgrading to an RTX card. It might be more interesting in 2020 when more games utilize it. Yeah just not sold on the big cards atm. Reviews might sway me I guess.

Looking like the GTX 2060 or GTX 2070 for me atm (Where you at AMD !?).

I mainly play VR these days on PC. Use XBox One X for most multi plats, cos honestly the games just work and run nice n smooth with freesync, VS some of the dodgy ports on PC I have played. Also running 4K on my PC is impossible atm. Xbox One X games look stunning at 4K / HDR / Freesync either upscaled or native.

Metro all i can think of, and its probs not used much in it, doesn't look like it from the videos anway, doesn't even look like it makes much diff either, i certainly ain't bothered that i'll not be able to turn it on in it.

Interesting those HDR benchmarks, it's certainly making me now think twice about nvidia again! HDR is a big factor for me as I play all my games (except for a couple of online MP) on an OLED TV now and HDR is just stunning, second biggest thing for improving IQ outside of the panel type, looks like once again, AMD future proof their cards more than nvidia.

And as said, I wouldn't fancy HDR for monitors, not when sitting about 2 feet from them......

Hard to say what I will do, I'll probably just go for whatever will offer the best bang per buck for <£300 (including old/current gen and the MM here) so probably; second hand vega 64, 1080/ti or 2060. Looks like the 2070 is going to be at least £400 now....

You can find the specs for HDMI 2.1 direct from the horse’s mouth:

https://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_1/
https://www.hdmi.org/download/hdmi_2_1/HDMIForum2.1NovReleasePresentation_EN.pdf

Still it wouldn't surprise me to see NVidia use their influence to ensure it (VRR) was optional part of the spec.
Nvidia are surely too small to have any significant influence over HDMI as the big TV and entertainment companies will have more influence; Sony, Samsung, Microsoft etc.
The question for me is how much does it cost in development time and other costs to implement VRR in TVs?
If it’s mainly a matter of the hardware controllers that presumably are bought in from smaller companies having the feature baked in, then the time and cost is baked into the cost of the controller. In which case the only other cost would be for firmware development presumably?
Sony and Microsoft should be keen for it to be a fixed part of the spec, whereas TV manufactures might prefer it to be optional so they can upsell you a premium TV.

Has anyone had the sneaking suspicion that all these AIB box art leaks might all be fake? I really hope not, but I cant help but think we've all been trolled on the rumoured Ti .....

I have my suspicion on the Ti myself. But if these cards are to be short lived then I can see why its getting released so early on. We shall see!

I’ve really messed up if they don’t announce the Ti now, I’ll have to buy a vanilla 2080 cause I just sold my 1080ti lol!

A few people with Ti's myself included are going to give it a miss if its on released on launch. It means nvidia have something else up their sleeve.
*Tin foil hat*

Im not so worried about any other surprise cards, but I would'nt be happy with having no card to play my games on!

I havent posted the card to its new owner yet so I could always cancel his order and refund his money... something ive never done before and dont really want to!

i'm hoping for the ti version this monday, but if not i'll hold on to my ftw3 1080ti until the next one is realased, just dropped £1250 on a 7900x and x299 platform with Mono block, i'm planning on sli 2080 ti as my final goal but may be tempted at a single 2080 if it is as good or a bit better than my current card (the next gen is said to use less power for the same kind of speed as the 1080 ti), i hope the rumored 2080 ti version wont have a 285w power draw as i'll have to invest in a 1kw minimun for sli if so

I'm really curious to see some solid numbers for this gen, but I can't say I'll be getting one anytime soon. I have a 1440p g-sync monitor and I can't really justify upgrading my 1080ti as it does a cracking job as it is. I feel like the 1080ti was a bit of a beast when launched and still does well. I can't really see people buying in unless they're upgrading older hardware or are running 4k.

Hope to pick up the 2080ti for VR duties in my main sim racing rig. I plan to keep my existing 1080ti and put it in an egpu box to drive a 4K tv in the living room. Just checking my ti invoice from last August and it came in around €750, hope the 2080ti ain’t a whole lot more than that!

Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are rumoured to be using it.

I thought we woulda seen leaked benchies by now wot are they hiding lol....

I thought Nvidia were handing out the review samples tomorrow to the press who were attending the event?

I think the 2080 and 2080ti are definitely the ones being announced tomorrow. OcUK even has placeholder pages for the cards ready on their site (2080/2080ti only)
