Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I am ready ... this stuff is hotter than an AMD GPU!

I thought your 176W must be a typo because you're claiming that your 64 is more efficient than a reference 1080. Sorry I can't take it seriously as I presume you're undervolting so it's not a valid comparison.

Seems you have no idea of the settings we have in AMD Wattman.
There are 4 basic ones.
Power Save Mode (170-176W cap), Balanced Mode (230-234W cap), Turbo mode (270-276W cap) and Custom where you can run wild with the card settings.
On a card like the Nitro+ these reflect to 1430 core, 1545, 1630, "go wild". Avg core speed is pending temps.

As for the power, I said the Factory overclocked like my old 1080ti Xtreme , yet you picked the FE.

The sample card generally keeps to around 325W TDP but then, very occassionally, spikes to 353W and we report that peak figure here. Compared with other GTX 1080 Tis, on average, it has about 25W less power consumption when evaluated on a long-term basis.

I had the card mate, I know how much power it burned.
That is why I love Vega , because when playing EU4/CK2 can burn only 80W, and can play Elite, WOT and WOWarships all day at 176W at at 100-110fps average and 140fps locked, respectively. (freesync 2560x1440 monitor all maxed out).

In 2012 I bought 2 680s for 410 each.

They were 2GB versions, 4GB weren't out when I bought.

It's a pretty sad state. Let me fuel it by buying tonight! Hopefully.

I wondered when we will be able to preorder.

Indeed. It's insane how much the prices of top tier cards have shot up. In 2007 I bought a 8800GTX for £320, then on release day in 2009 got a 5870 for £350. Even accounting for inflation, closing in on £1000 for a top end GPU is ridiculous.

I bet there are some interesting search histories given the amount of 'rectal examination pictures' we've had posted :D

"But, but darling, it was all to do with graphics cards, I swear!"

Absolutely, i used buy a new gpu every 12-18 month's between 2000-2010. I never felt ripped off, selling the old one and spending an extra couple of hundred. It's a joke now.

What I'm getting fed up off (in addition to the high prices) is the way Nvidia always rig the performance, the x70 is always on par with the previous x80ti and ~10% faster than the previous x80, and it's been this way for 6+ years now, it's boring/predictable, I would like to see another disruptive generation like the 8800.

Hmmm, does that mean it isn't going to be a blower then?

by the looks of that leak i'd say no, the rear fan may possible expell heat out of the case but the fan nearest the power plugs will proberly push heat into your case, who knows though we'll have to find out later today what jensun has up his sleeves

I think @Paladine said it's moose jerky. Looks lovely.

The pics of the reference remind me of the old 690. That was a gorgeous looking card.

*edit* I realise that wasn't a two fan but it looks similar to me. It's early in the morning, leave me alone! :P

bit of a dull question but has anyone thought of what is going to be cost of a nvlink, the new cards are said to use it, correct me if wrong but no mobo manufactures are going to bundle one of those as they are quite expensive alone, do you think nvidia will offer you one at a cut down price if you order 2 cards or will they be money grabbers and make you pay full wak for one?

There are some scenarios when buying online when you are not taxed on your purchases. When buying GPUs on Newegg for example, only about 10 states have to pay sales tax on their orders and people from the rest of the states are not taxed by Newegg on their purchases. Probably why a lot of Americans will purchase their GPU online.

Anyway, happy Nvidia day!

This is exactly right why a lot of us buy online. To break it down in detail, if you are making purchases online from a retailer that has no physical or incorporated presence in your state i.e. the state to which you are shipping, you don't (normally) pay sales tax at the point of purchase. For example, if I live in/am shipping to Wisconsin and Newegg has no physical presence in Wisconsin, then I don't pay sales tax out the door. You are supposed to claim goods where you weren't taxed in this way this on your year-end taxes, but this rarely happens. As an anecdote, I know a lot of folks who live in NY (where most companies have some sort of presence) who ship stuff back to friends/family/second homes in the Midwest so they avoid higher sales tax.

Further, if you own an LLC and you are technically purchasing the goods for a machine that will be used for your LLC e.g. I do all my business' work on my personal machine, the purchase gets written off at tax time.

On a related note, many states are now closing this loophole and will enforce taxation at the point of sale even if the business isn't physically present, but it's a long time to go for this to happen everywhere. The whole paradigm is both good and bad since a) on one hand, by not charging out-of-state sales tax on online purchases you are enabling a lot of smaller online mom & pop/single-state retailers to exist (who would otherwise not be attractive if they had to charge tax) while giving a "discount" to consumers, but b) on the other hand the state isn't getting that income.

In any case, while in the UK I follow the book (unlike some of my other expat compatriots who bring back retail goods from home) and will be subject to the same VAT if I buy a 2000-series as anyone else buying from OCUK.

...In case anyone is interested (apologies for the WOT :p)

And all the sheep are following.

Suckers:D
