Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Maybe we grew up in different gaming groups but I started on a ZX81 and from then until the original Playstation, gaming was geeky and uncool. I've loved Nintendo all my life but Sony took it to the masses and made gaming cool.
Whaaaaaat?? Having a Nes and then SNES was about as cool as it got in the late 80's early 90's. Certainly for a primary school kid.

I think the conversation was more about PC pricing pushing out kids but that doesn't have to be the case. The Playstation brought gaming to the masses and so it's no surprise kids want consoles over PC's. It's always been the case unless they have some friends who play WoW of LoL.

Gaming is all about playing friend's online now. None of his friends game on a pc, pointless me building him one. The ps4 pro and Xbox one X are amazing for the price. The ps5 and whatever Microsoft bring out will be huge hits, sad to say further reducing the relevance of pc gaming for kid's.

This thread is very entertaining. Especially as I am skipping this gen of GPU. Just a riot to watch it unfold.
Should be even more entertaining at 5pm (6pm?) tonight, when we perhaps find out the non-Ti is up to £800, with the Ti even more expensive :p

Later, more fireworks when the ~£500 xx70 cards get released :p

Not going to be pretty, but it sure should be fun :p

Is it going to be spread out over multiple days, or do you think Nvidia will spaff their load tonight?

I don't want to have to wait any longer to hear all their places for this gen.

I’ll pay whatever the cost is, it’s my hobby and I don’t put a spending limit on my hobbies.

And I’m also supporting the future of PC gaming kind of

Maybe I should take up bird watching instead

I think you are right, the heyday of PC gaming is slipping away. The average age of PC gamers is going up and up. (not strange considering the Price of things like GPU's and Memory now). Soon it will only be available to retires with a good private pension. See you all in 40 years guys!

I am ready ... this stuff is hotter than an AMD GPU!

In my school in London you were a target if you gamed. I'm not saying it wasn't cool, I thought it was cool, but not to the masses.
'91-96 was secondary school era for me.

Everybody gamed; consoles like the MegaDrive and SNES were widespread.

The cool kids gamed and the ostracised kids gamed. However I get the impression it was mainly the boys at that time. Or maybe even exclusively the boys. There were no girl gamers back then :p

Not just pc gaming. My kid's don't watch TV on a television, they don't watch programs aired in the traditional manner at a set time. Everything is streamed to mobiles, tablet's or console's. The BBC and ITV better adapt and quick.

Why don't you have a Titan V?

What made you choose a 1080 Ti instead?

Given that you just said you don't have a limit, why wouldn't you go for the absolute best?

Your words don't seem to match your actions.

You seem to be getting a little emotional about what I said. It’s okay times are tough.

I didn’t need the Titan V as we all know the 1080ti is enough for 4k

Believe it or not some logic does come into my spending habits, if the card / hardware fits the bill for what I need. I buy with no limit simples.
