Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Undervolting, like overclocking isn't guaranteed so everyone's mileage will vary. The reason manufacturers set the minimum voltage (and max clock) is for maximum stability.
To try and compare an undervolted card to an unreleased card with unconfirmed specs that hasn't been reviewed yet, but you know it will be significantly faster is just ridiculous.
Anyway, enough of the talk about old and obsolete kit! There are new cards incoming;)

You confuse undervolting with Drivers default settings. Have a look here,

That is the Power Save mode. This is not undervolting. Look at the settings with Balanced & Turbo also, as described to be previous post.

If switch the above default driver settings to Custom, here are the values AMD drivers set
Clearly no undervolting going on.

There is no undervolting. The card is still running at 1200mv. Is the power limit reduced by 25%.
That translates the above settings on the Nitro+ generate a clock around 1400 core 1100HBM at 176W at 30C+, and 1500ish core 1100HBM at 176W at temps bellow 29C according to drivers overlay, and HWInfo total power consumption indicators.

In games that don't like AMD cards like WoWarships & WOT (as Wargaming is Nvidia poster child), or in Elite Dangerous, is pointless to run the V64 at 276W default setting (276W Turbo mode). As you gain just 10% more FPS (in WOT from 100-105 to 110-115) for +60% power consumption, and in the case of Wargaming products, that cannot be improved even if you overclock the card to 1800 core burning 376W.
Because the client is CRAP.

Other games truly benefit from overclocking like FC5, Crysis 3 etc, while other games like EUIV/CK2 love the power save mode because they run at 80W. But you see diminishing returns tbh if you have Freesync monitor. 100fps at 234W is perfectly fine with Freesync.

And all these settings are coming with 1 click on the main profile.

Trying to cut the power to GTX1080Ti Xtreme not trying to burn 300W+ on EU4 had proven futile, since EUIV and CK2 vsync didn't work with any Pascal drivers since I bought the Xtreme back in August 2017.

On the contrary, the FPS cap setting on AMD drivers works fine with all the games (except Mordheim City of the Damned), making games that do not need the power to cut down all way to 80W when gaming. (PDX Clausewitz engine games)

But all above are TOO complicated even for the reviewers who try to overclock the Vega 64 and the 2700X like they are Intel and Nvidia products. At least some are mastering the AMD CPUs these days, like Buildzoid and few others, showing to people how to get the best out of XFR2 without overheating their CPUs even on the stock air cooler. But to comprehent that a single 1 click setting can change the dynamics of a Vega 64 (especially the good ones line Nitro and Red Devil) is too difficult -_- (V64 Strix is crap worse card than the reference one).

I got my pre-order in just so I get my card before the gaming season starts. If it doesn't kill my Xp @2g I'll refund, if it does then I'll get mine on the 13th before the hype starts and all of a sudden the price isn't that bad and it's out of stock everywhere. I seem to remember the 8700k went the same way.

People moaning about the price should have worked harder at school, I don't cry I can't afford a Lambo, I except I wasn't born into it and my Job isn't up to scratch, there's plenty of other cars to enjoy, motoring isn't going down the pan and neither is PC gaming - what a load of old bum hurt ****.
Should have tried harder at school? I don't think i could have achieved any higher across school uni and career as Im at the top in a very lucrative line of work. But prices spiralling out of control is still something that I find unacceptable to myself. It was a hobby that £400 got you graphics at the top tier. Now it no longer is. It's 3x more. My graphics card cost more than a console alone, now it could buy them all.

It was pocket change for me, well not anymore perhaps. But I look at that £1000 and wonder what else I could do with it that is more meaningful to me. As most people are now thinking the same.

It's a different expectation that is the niggle. Just because I can still afford, doesn't mean I should be content.

y.

You're not been serious with that comment? "working harder at school"?? What's school got to do with it, school is meaningless. What a smug comment.

I didn’t work hard in school and I own three cars one of which being an Aston Martin.

Not boasting (much) but please don’t tarnish people with that brush

As i said, these RTX effects are years away from being mainstream, anyone buying now is being duped bigtime....

Well two of them are out next month, so...not sure where you're getting that information.

Aston owners like saying that, that's the only reason they own them :D lol

Terrible drivers cars. But that's just my brush.

Unless performance increases in current titles are palpable who is going to pay such large sums for effects that will take a long time to become the norm in games by which time new hardware will likely be available? Sure, benches could change all this but the lack of any in that presentation isn't a good sign.

If PC gaming prices keep skyrocketing, then PC gamers will leave the platform for consoles. It's obvious.

It's already happening, btw, before today. 10 series pricing was bad enough to do that already.

But these 20xx prices .... LOL ... those prices are not even close to the kind of money the avg gamer wants to spend on a single component.
i think this is due to miming/crypto??

but u worked hard in your job/career to be able to afford those cars so the person you are quoting is saying that.

ie people who have worked hard in life to obtain funds to buy things like this is what his on about

Yeah a thick nurse like me should just stop whining....I might be poor financially. But at least I'm a decent human being.
