Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I am slightly underwhelmed, I was hoping for some reviews to drool over... But it looks like those could be a whole month away. The price puts these well out of my price bracket for now which is disappointing, but until AMD release something new to put pressure on or Nvidia build up significant stock I dont see why they are going to feel the need to discount.

People buying very fast road cars can also use them for track days which is why I said "dramatically faster under certain conditions."
But clearly RT is not about top speed but better performance so with cars that can mean better acceleration, cornering speeds, braking etc which can be appreciated on the road.
Just give up... GPUs are not cars, the analogy doesn't work in this case.

I find it frustrating that you're trying to say this pricing is A-OK.

People will look at these prices and simply say to themselves, "PC gaming is no longer for me."

You can claim that's irrational and talk about Ferraris... that is simply how plenty of us now feel.

Sorry mixed it with the 2080Ti.
Yet 250W at base speed is a lot mate for GPU, that is exactly the base clock TDP of the GTX480
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/268/geforce-gtx-480
Vega 64 has 295W TDP at max boost clock, and you have to heavily overclock custom AIB (Devil, Nitro) to achieve that.
Normally they run at 276W at 1630 clock at default Turbo mode and 234W at balanced mode.
Here's a much more recent graph from the same site you linked to showing the 250W 1080 Ti versus other current cards; not an ancient GTX 480!

Sorry, but I don't agree with this example.

It is more like rather than focusing on bettering the cooking of a piece of steak, a piece of roast tomato being added to the dish and then calling it a much better dish and then proceed to charge the moon for it :p

I didn't comment on the pricing being okay so that's a straw-man argument.
I simply pointed out that moving to a console because of this is irrational and a knee jerk reaction and probably just hot air in many cases.

This is AMD's fault
If they could remember how to make a half decent GPU that doesn't double up as a space heater and need a sub station to power it's mediocre performance we wouldn't be here.

:)

The framerate tank when RT (in Tomb Raider) is turned on is *very* telling of what to expect!

If it tanks too much then is the 2080 really any different from the 1080Ti. That's what I would be asking.

It does look like they have manged to get some key games to add some ray tracing options though, which will help sell the cards.

I think ray tracing will be used more in games, but only meaningfully with good performance when nvidia move onto 7nm, up the clocks and tensor core processing power.

I did however like the fact they are using ANNs to improve AA. If developers support that, its a lot better than checkerboarding that consoles currently use to deliver 4K.

Hot air?

A PS5 may end costing less than a 2070.

Think about that. That's nV's ... 4th? ... tier card now. £570.

Hot air, lol.

So if you play a game where it's about midday (in the game) and you dont look at reflections (ie most of your game time) then is all this RTX stuff next to useless?

I'm buying a PS4 Pro tomorrow just because of this post.
Sony have a deal that if you are suitably enraged when you buy a PS4P within the next 7 days that they will give you a free voucher for a hot air balloon trip.
The condition though is that you have to fly over a tip and drop your PC gaming rig into it.

I think the biggest benefit will be the advanced AA that you might be able to get. 4K gaming with say 80% scaling? Yes please.

I hope someone tests how well the ANNs work with small resolution bumps like above. No good say bringing 1080p upto something closer to 2160p (probably easy gains to be had). Would rather see something like 1800p bumped up to 2160p.

PC gaming is getting like my hairline, I'm just about clinging on.

Very tempted to get a 4k console after this, we could literally go out tomorrow and buy one and not feel guilty due to how much NVIDIA want for this card.

Cause some like ME like something more than MORE FPS ??
Thats why I play in 3D cause 2d gaming looks poor to ME.... 7 years so far.
Ill put it in perspective...... Titan Pascal can ALMOST maintain 60fps in 3D@1080p hehe

This raytracing looks FANTASTIC !!! Finally some jump besides resolution and fps :)

BTW. YOU and most wanted 50% more fps I wanted SOMETHING NEW and got it :)

Interesting how you flip flop around a lot. You banged on for ages about FPS been the most important thing to you and gamers. You complained about how AMD were bringing new features (Dx12) that were only used in a few games and also about the ridiculous price that the Vega cards were. Now here you are here about to pay a ridiculous price for your next Nvidia card and justifying it by saying it will have something new, even though, that something new will only be used in a handful of games.

The raw TFLOPs numbers for these cards could be significantly misleading as a measure of one architecture against another. Just look at Vega in compute power.
The GDDR6 will also make a big difference. I hate the price but we have no clue how good these cards might be yet.
Knowing how Nvidia historically treat old architecture though it is going to be hard arguing about buying a 10 series card now though despite the price.
My next PC purchases will be black friday ao will see what has happened by then.
