A death threat of sorts. What would GD do?

They possibly just don't have the resources to cope with every case, also there will be a political input such such as, 'we want lower crime figures' or some kind of softy softy approach to try and appease some of these people. I can't imagine the police are just blatantly incompetent and couldn't give a crap etc. I could be wrong. They may just know that the chances of getting a conviction are very slim due to lack of evidence or 'his word against theres' etc.

Or maybe it's to do with every tom, dick and harry calling the police for even the smallest thing like, my cat is stuck in a tree sort of thing. They are expected to act as social workers and dogs bodies basically alongside arresting crooks.

I'm only trying to reason it out as you hear these stories a lot i.e ,'the police did naff all'. Under resourced and a culture of expecting a private army at your beck and call for anything IMO.

He threatened to stab you and you then turned your back on him? Big mistake.
Yeah, that was my thoughts too. I've never had that kind of trouble here but in Glasgow I would *never* turn my back on someone with a knife, not even an 'unlikely' threat. That seems a great way to get stabbed by some wannabe gangster with his mum's kitchen knife in his jacket.

Reporting to the police is a waste of time in my experience, I had a similar experience at the start of the year - a chav wrecked on amphetamine started shouting at me on the other side of the road, (i ignore him) he decides to come after me, follows me down the road, before getting in front of me and stopping me in my tracks, spends the next 5 minutes getting in my face asking for a fight, (I'm taler, bigger stronger <ex swimmer and rugby player> this guy has no chance, but I refuse to hit him <I have a previous criminal record for Affray, so I know what happens if I misjudge or make a mistake..> it goes on and on in the middle of the street, me refusing to fight him - until he says he's going to stab me to death.

My reply is 'Ok, well I'm calling the cops now' (pull my phone out and dial 999 in front of him) the guy goes absolutely insane, screaming and jumping at me, getting right in my face, literally spitting in my face, (the whole time I'm on the phone to the 999 operative, who has actually patched into the CCTV camera and can physically see me whilst I'm on the phone, police are on their way) eventually he runs at me and tries to jump me, I knock him to the ground - he lays in the fetal position, groaning for about 10 seconds, before jumping up and running off.

The police turn up, drive around for about 10 minutes - then claim they can't find him, the CCTV footage - whilst showing the incident wasn't good enough to get an identification as he was wearing a tracksuit with a hoodie... I thought that was the end of it.

The revelation came, a few months ago - when the same guy, again wrecked on amphetamine was stood 200yds from my flat selling drugs to the art students, I went and stood nearby to him and was 100% certain it was the same guy, I called 101 - told them, they found the original case and reported it.... 2 days later he's there again, and again, I call 101 again - nobody does anything, until now I see him almost every day lol... I've just given up worrying about it now, but for it points out that the police just don't seem interested - he's there every day, selling drugs, smashed off his face - god knows how long it is until he has a go at someone else, or even someone not physically capable or infirm? who knows..

Perhaps he's one part of a bigger operation?

How else do you get away? Walk backwards whilst facing him?

Either way if you turn around to go back the other way, or go past him to carry on, your back will be to him.

The problem I have with doing anything physical, or anything that involves physical force, is that in my case (I can't speak for @Angilion) I have had a full on street fight with someone, in self defence about 8 years ago. The end result is that the police turn up, both parties get arrested, it turns into a war of "his word vs mine" with no effective witnesses, no real evidence - you both end up getting cautioned or charged for an Affray, section 4 public order, or whatever - for someone like me who has a very good job, who has to travel to the US all the time - that could finish me totally and utterly and wreck my career. In my case I was cautioned, but it still causes me problems from time to time - (ACRO, enhanced CRB checks etc) when someone actually attacked me and I fought back... There's nothing I can do about it - I'm stuck with it on my record until I'm 100 years old.

It sounds ridiculous, but when the guy attacked me at the start of the year, I was more worried about what happens to me regarding the law, if I wreck this guy in self defence, rather than what this guy can actually do to me - even if he has a knife. It's crazy - but someone like that has nothing to lose, I have everything to lose.

I'd report the incident. Nothing will come of it this time but if he does this again in the same area and more than one person has made the same type of incident report, it gives the police more to go on and hopefully catch the guy later on.

It's probably best to report it to the police even if it gets filed away. If its happening to other people then they could use your report to build a bigger case later on.

Wow some people are incredibly cynical. I'd definitely report it, what have you got to lose? Spend 5mins of your day doing a good deed. At the very least it puts him on the radar. Lowlifes like that probably follow a pattern, if he gets caught in a 50/50 situation with someone who does get into a fight etc, your word now might save his potential "victim" from all the legal trouble all others have alluded to by getting involved. Let's try and be a bit more positive here GD? Do your but for the community, otherwise you have no right to complain.

I call 101 again - nobody does anything, until now I see him almost every day lol... I've just given up worrying about it now, but for it points out that the police just don't seem interested - he's there every day, selling drugs, smashed off his face - god knows how long it is until he has a go at someone else, or even someone not physically capable or infirm? who knows..
Would you possibly have gotten a better response had you dialled 999? Seems overkill but technically you can use that number if you see a "crime being committed or about to be committed".

I can't remember if I posted about this, but at about midnight I came home from a night out and noticed two youths walking down my street looking a bit shifty. They were walking the same direction as me but on the other side of the road. They seemed to pause outside one of my neighbours with a porsche parked in the road, and moved on when I think they noticed me. They were about 25m away from my front door (other side of road), so I hung back rather than catching up to them just as I needed to go in my front door, generally just avoiding them. I got in and went up into my lounge, turned the lights on etc. They definitely would have noticed me go in. I turned the lights off in the lounge to go up to bed, and had a cheeky look out just to see if they were still there. To my surprise they were sat on the house opposite's wall, directly under a street light. As I watched them for a moment they both started putting on black gloves. I was like "hold on what's going on here" so continued to watch. They then put their hoods up and walked back the way they had come down to the house with the porsche, and disappeared just outside my line of view. It looked an awful lot like they just went round to his side gate, so at that point I dialled 101. When I got off the phone I saw the guys come back out, and walk back up the road, nothing in hand. Hmn.

But anyway, the police were there within 10mins, the copper phones me back (much to the annoyance of my girlfriend who I had already woken up once "omg I think these guys are trying to break in down the road") so I gave them a description and told them which way they went. I saw the copper have a poke around the porsche-house but come out, then they drove off in the direction the guys went.

In short, report it. Do your bit. Otherwise you're not entitled to complain.

Definitely report and give a description. He is probably known to them and it all adds to their evidence. The streets are certainly getting worse. The problem is, too many are now carrying knives. I live in a very expensive area and even here we have had stabbings in the area. I definitely wouldn’t turn my back to him. I usually don’t carry money on me in any form, so I would be screwed if he insisted and was carrying. .

This is an allegation of attempted robbery as per its definition whether it can be proven or not.
Calling it in may well prevent a robbery or worst case someone getting stabbed if they were indeed carrying. Not a waste of police time IMHO. I know a lot of police love to get in a robbery suspect.

Yeah I mean I did toy with the idea of dialling 999, but honestly - on balance it really wasn't an emergency, so I just opted for 101... Maybe I should have called 999, but meh....

I brought this up previously, but one thing that did surprise me - was how 6 months or so earlier, I had my work iPhone lifted out of my bag whilst on the tube, (it was just a work phone and I had to report it to follow HR procedure, so I did it online and got a crime number and stuff) the phone was IMEA blocked and I forgot all about it... Over the next few weeks, I must have had about 6 or 7 different phone calls, "following up on the case" or providing updates, asking for information, all manner of nonsense - the phone was ******* gone man, totally gone - it may as well be on mars, but they just kept on and on at me...

Take in contrast with a physical assault, resulting in threats being made to my life and an actual violent attack - the police turn up for 10 mins, then I never ever hear from them again, ever - even after I see the guy casually walking around and report it multiple times, it's pretty interesting.

13 replies and no boxing stance ? GD is slow today.
No-one boxes any more. It's all about carrying a quarterstaff with pistol grip and laser sights in a SpeedDraw holster, nowadays...

"I'll shank you right now", to be precise.
You sure he said 'shank' and not 'thank'?
He might have been offering to blow you... you missed an opportunity there!

So...what would GD do?
Also, I had a grand total of 45p on me anyway.
Just tell him you're coming back from work and not carrying any cash, maybe make a show of up-ending your wallet and offering the 45p.
Definitely drop the cops a note, or something.
