Should bronze money be scrapped?

I would miss the mild "ooh!" you get when you shuffle through a handful of coppers whilst waiting at the traffic lights, and find one that dates back to 1971, and go "this coins nearly as old as me".

I imagine charities would take a bit of a hit, as old coppers probably end up being tossed their way anyway. Probably adds up.

As well as the homeless taking a hit, as if they haven't with everyone using contactless more-so in the recent year.

True about fruit machines. Then again modern fruit machines don't accept 1p or 2p, so my OP remains :) I hate being loaded down with copper, to the point that us fruity players refer to it as "shrapnel" :D

As for the rest of this thread - I'm glad that nobody has mentioned cheques.

Pet hate of mine, machines that don't accept small denomination coins. Often 10p or 20p is the minimum which is annoying as they are a good way off offloading change and on one or two occasions I've had insufficient bigger coins to pay.

I've said for a number of years, before contactless really took off that I'd like to see 1p and 2p got rid of. Inflation is such that they are basically little more than an annoyance that nobody pays any heed to. As someone pointed out above, even bagging them up earns you less than minimum wage.

I like both it would be sad to see our coins and notes vanish, I am sentimental over these things.

Memories of pocket money and if you were lucky a note in a Birthday card!

Canada got rid of the 1p coin, so it can be done.

The rounding will not be done on single items but on the total bill of sale. If the price ends in a one, two, six, or seven it gets rounded down to 0 or 5; and rounded up if it ends in three, four, eight or nine.

Should just get rid of cash tbh. It will happen eventually we may as well be pioneers. Would instantly stop a lot of tax dodgers.

There will be less going to charity because people will tend to keep silvers instead of dumping them in a charity box at the till :D

TBH, we should have a barter system as well lol

Bronze money should go, keep the rest. It was on the radio today that most bronze coins get used once before going out of circulation, ending up in money pots etc.

ban card payments and digital payments.

people spend less on tat/over priced rubbish when they can physically see just how much something costs so less people will get in to debt because you can't spend what you don't have

I don't carry or use money ....
just the card
I cant be robbed
and don't have change for the scum I mean beggars....
