Halogen bulb ban

It'll be years before these bulbs go out of stock.

I still have 100W bulbs kicking around, none of my fittings are rated for them anymore though! To be honest I'm moving to LED as there are some very good low profile ones with great natural colour now.

So what will then happen with all the dimmer switches? I have a number of Lightwave switches that need bulbs of I think at least 35-40w. i know you can get LED bulbs that work with dimmers but they don't work with the so called "smart" dimmer switches. Does this mean I'll have to go around changing all the light switches now?

I moved to LEDs as soon as the warmer colours became available. I don't think I have a single incandescent, halogen, or CCFL bulb anywhere in the house now.

My house is almost all gu10, would cost too much to put decent led bulbs in. Maybe in the fiture.

Find a good cost of ownership tool online. It may be expensive initially but the savings that LED gives you should end up paying for the new bulbs within a few months. Maybe change your bulbs a room at a time over the course of a few months?

Still got plenty of 100 and 150 Watt incandescents here with no real thoughts to change them.

You've upgraded from tallow and gas lamps? heretic!

As for running costs, it's surprising how much changing to LEDs can save. I've got 2 x 6 bulb light fittings in the kitchen that did have 40W Halogen GU10's in them, changing those to 5W LEDs has saved approx £60-70 a year in electric on those alone.

Part of the reason people don't like LED when they change over is in fact that Halogen gave off so much heat, it contributed to the overall temperature of their house.

Shame they didn't also understand that the heat given off just proves how inefficient they are. I welcome the ban, anyway.

I'm pretty sure I've switched to all LEDs already, though one did blow the other day which makes me question the old "these will last until doomsday" line.

I once burnt my nipple on a bedside lamp when leaning over to reach something, finally the World is sitting up and taking notice!

Steady on chap, saving energy is important but I don't think we need to kick him off the forums!

Out of curiosity what are people on here's electric bills a quarter versus number of rooms? Just watching Raab on the TV, prattling about hard "Brexit" contingency plans, he looks as if he's about to expire with heat exhaustion, he needs some air con turning on he looks dreadful, what a wet!

Saving money =/= saving energy. If you are heating your house electrically anyway (Which many smaller homes do these days), Low energy bulbs will only save "energy" at those times of year/day when you are already too hot and it is also dark at the same time. Probably for no more than 2-3 months of the year and even then only for a couple of hours a day.
