I did not want him to beat Obama but that was mainly due to Palin as running mate (or drag anchor). Overall a decent politician and all round guy I think.

I don't know a great deal about his policies but he always struck me as one of the more honourable people in American politics.

Indeed, he always took the approach to put his country first, then his party, then his career. Sadly that's quite rare in a politician.

Agreed - regardless of his policies, he came across as an honest and decent person, willing to push for what he believed in regardless of party pressure. There are not enough politicians that do that.

Something I always admired about McCain was that he was perfectly cordial with members of the Vietnamese government, even after being tortured/imprisoned by it, it showed another level of professionalism.

I didn’t think very highly of him due to being a Republican but after reading about his life story and how he was captured during the Vietnam war, I found a new found respect for him.

More respect was given to him when he stood up to Trump and his stupidity.

A real shame he will not be around to troll Trump further.

Didn't agree with most of his policies but he was one of the Rebublicans with a spine and would often standup for what he thought was best and go against his party.

If there were more Rebublicans of his caliber then Trump would be impeached by now.
