I'll be getting one of these when they release the art fib and ECG capabilities in the UK, really interested in that, from both a fitness and a hypochondriac point of view :p

Yes. They have a water lock mode which you engage before swimming.
The water lock just stops the screen acting up, has nothing to do with the water proofing which is a physical thing.

As for what makes the watch worth it, it’s my main method of payment with Apple Pay and I use it for fitness and notifications and Siri.

It’s also great to sync some music, put on my AirPods and leave the phone at home when I go for a 10 mile walk, with cellular I’ll just be able to stream from Apple Music and not have to sync songs which is slow.

Ahh OK, I thought it also did something to some of the ports because when you unlock it, I've seen it eject water. Thanks for the clarification :)

As I posted in the other thread, don't worry too much about the EKG feature. If you understand how ECG/EKG's work, then you'll know that it can only provide a single lead analysis which is utterly useless in most cases depending on your own personal electrical axis. For people with a normal axis, and no hypertrophy causing a shift, it *could* be useful for detecting very basic arrhythmia's such as atrial fibrillation, but otherwise diagnostically it's useless. The only time I use single leads is for basic telemetry monitoring, but every single one of my patients gets at least a 3 lead, and often a 12 lead given I do a lot of cardiac cases in the OR.

I've been holding out for the announcement but at that cost I think I'll got with the S3 as it covers what I need and not too worried about the edge to edge side....

Yeah it ejects water from the speakers using sound.

All I meant was that if you didn’t put it in Swim mode your watch would still be waterproof up to the rated depth/time.

Kind of gutting that the ECG feature is US only.
It’s not even there at launch and I’m guessing Apple will get it properly certified in the UK since we are one of their biggest markets, our watches will have the hardware present, it’s just licensing holding things back.

Looks great and liking the new tech upgrades to it, however my series 3 gps is doing everything I need it to just now and very well. Will wait at least another year before I think about an upgrade.
Only thing that might make me jump a little quicker is if Three start supporting the sim for the watch.

Does anyone know if the apple watch supports spotifty yet?

Not as far as I'm aware. From a bit of Googling the issue appears to be the current limitations of WatchOS which limit apps from using too much of the internal storage like Spotify would need to in order to support syncing of music - however WatchOS 5 apparently allows this.

Spotify have so far not confirmed whether under WatchOS 5 they will now build an app, but I'd think it would be likely.

Is the stainless steel one worth it?

It feels more premium for sure, has a good weight to it. Main benefit is it comes with the sapphire glass which is significantly tougher and more resistant to scratching. It's a fairly sizable price difference if you're not interested in the cellular version though, as the SS only comes as cell+gps.

Thanks. Do you find the case itself more resistant to scratching? I'm very careful with my Omega/IWC and I still manage to get them clipped under tables, etc.

My original black stainless is in flawless condition, and i've worn it almost every day for 3 years in the operating room. I'm pretty careful, not clumsy but I've definitely whacked it a few times with no notable issues. The biggest issue for me with the apple watch, is despite how much I never thought I'd need one, my other lovely watches now spend their entire lives in the watch winder!
