Hi all

Didn't get a response to a previous question so I thought I would rephrase and try again.

Just received a 1080Ti and while my monitor is perfectly serviceable, its not going to tax the 1080Ti with 1080p @ 60Hz

Been reading this sub-forum quite a bit and narrowed it down to either an 1440p @144Hz with GSync like the Dell S2716DG or a 4K 60Hz like the BenQ PD3200U.

I'd like to pay around £5-600 for the monitor and it to last a few years, certainly until 4k @ 144hz is more sensibly priced.

I usually place strategy games like Total War: Warhammer or Starcraft 2 - I have a PS4 for things like Call of Duty and I'm rubbish at them anyway. Otherwise I need to be able to connect my work laptop to it when I'm working from home - I have a KVM switch but understand that I won't be able to use it for the screen anymore as it only handles resolutions up to 1920x1200.

I was thinking that 1440p with GSync would be a better option at the price point I want to pay, rather than a 4K screen with a lower refresh rate.

PS Yes, still using an overclocked 2500k as CPU but it'll be updated at some point in the next few months

My advice?

Get an ultrawide 21:9 1440p 100/120/144Hz Gysnc.

I've just bought one and coming from a 1080P/60Hz like yourself, it's been a revelation for my gaming.

Will never go back to 16:9 non-VRR displays.

It'll cost more but trust me, it's worth it.

Definitely 2560x1440 High refresh G-Sync. [keep in mind Total war: warhammer or any games that have bad drops will not do too well with gsync, so you'll either have to either lock fps to 60 or turn off gsync]

Do the only reasonable thing there is in this situation: buy both monitors (for the price of one Ultrameme I may add).

Work box goes into the 3200U and the gaming box goes into Gsync screen. Get a Keyboard/Mouse (not a KVM) switch to change controls between the two.

Rip on some warhammer between emails and meetings. IT'S TIME TO UP YOUR WFH GAME, OP.

Do you mean the frame rate drop in battles with loads of units on screen? I would have thought that's the perfect time for gsync to do its magic!

Having had a good dig around this forum and various sites, I think I'm settled on GSync 1440p - I'll probably go for the Acer XB271HUA as a compromise on functionality / price / fits with my desk colour scheme!

I dont think that there is any substitute for higher res if you have the power to get 60fps out of it. Ive played at 1080p, 1440p and 4k over the last 10 years an i would say that 4k is just looks so much better even if you have to put settings on high against ultra settings on 1440p.

This of course depends on screen size and how far away you sit. I have a 40" 4k monitor and sit about 3 feet away.

2560x1440 is a good all round resolution though some RPGs & open world games look great on an UW monitor. I find up to 100Hz refresh on a monitor is good and I then cap games to 75 fps as that's smooth enough for me and reduces the 40-90 fps ping pong you can get in some games. G-Sync to catch the lowest fps drops.

I'd definitely agree. I've compared a 27" 1440p and 32" 4K monitor back to back, and there is no doubt 4K looks better. I think ultimately it depends what games you play though, as fast twitch competitive shooters are obviously going to be better suited to high refresh displays. Visual fidelity will come second to many gamers, so 4K obviously isn't for everyone. There's also a distinct lack of G-Sync available on 4K monitors at 32", which is the optimal size. 27" is really too small for 4K. Unfortunately there is only one 32" 4K monitor with G-Sync, the Acer XB321HK. I think more are on the roadmap for next year, but it's puzzling to me we still only have the one... and the Acer is nearly 3 years old now. It's a good panel as well... providing you can get one with minimal glow and no dust/dirt under the panel, as has been my furstrating experience... it's true 10-bit and has excellent uniformity and colours.

I own a s2716dg bought it a few years ago version A03 I play mmos and overwatch assasins creed etc. It has served me well . to get the best picture you need a calibrator and then it will look very good. I use a spyder 5 pro they are about 115 ponds but a good investment. the colors will never look as rich as an ips but in games the picture is very god. Atm I would avoid the ips 27" g-sync screens as they still suffer blb and it is a lottery to get a descent one;

3440*1440p would be the sweet spot for a 1080Ti and AAA games maxed out with great FPS and immersion from 21:9.

Don't go 4k
