Road Cycling

Worse gearing would probably force me to go up a climb a bit harder (gotta maintain >80rpm no-grind). Perhaps you just took it too easy with the easier gearing :p

It's just frustrating because I built it. It's like if your newborn baby came out with a birth defect.:D
The way you're feeling about it, it would be worth paying a quality LBS to give it a 'once over' (or a full service) to look into the slowness, but also to confirm to yourself that nothing you've done building it is the root cause.

Without that second opinion you (and we) can only guess what is wrong. It's not as if you knowingly built it to be slow! :D ;)

Unfortunately, the only bit of data I have is a climb I did in January and last Sunday.

I was 20s quicker up the climb on the bike my Bowman replaced which was similar weight, worse gearing (34-25 compared to 36-29) and at a time when I was arguably less fit than now.

Anyway, I'll stop polluting the thread with my whining. I just have to live with it unless I come across some eureka moment about a cause of the drag.:(

I wouldn't under estimate the speed that high rolling resistance tyres will suck out of you. Not sure what you've got on there currently mind.

Burnnnnn

My god the rain was biblical come home time. First time in a long time I bailed on a ride! Was going to walk but even too hideous for that so grabbed a lift. Really looking forward to winter...

These look amazing

anyone interested? i am for commuting

I tried the RC 520 on Monday in store and thought it was really good for the price, a nice upgrade over my current Triban 3 Red. Was originally going to continue using my Triban 3 for commuting and get a nicer bike for weekend riding but realistically most my riding is made up of commuting as rarely get out at weekends with two young kids so thought it best to get a good all rounder so picking one up on Saturday from my local store ready for my commute on Monday (38 mile round trip).

However the store I tried it in (Surrey Quays) didn't know how to set up tubeless tyres when I asked and said the tubeless ready tyres on the bike needed replacing with some other tyres that needed gluing on  Will see what my local store says as this might be something you have to do yourself as tubeless appeals for commuting as nothing worse than getting a flat on the way home and seems like a lot of glass on CS7 at the moment.

Sounds like they got tubular and tubeless mixed up.

I too commute on the CS7 and recently went tubeless. What did you want to know about running tubeless?

Small world, I join CS7 from Tooting Broadway and go all the way to Southwark Bridge. Its not the most direct route for me but means I avoid going through Purley/Croydon.

How have you found going tubeless so far? I have had a couple of punctures (both small glass shards) so not sure how well tubeless would work in those scenarios. I have watched a video on how to set them up so will get round to that one weekend when I am free once I have ridden the new bike a few times.

How have you found going tubeless so far?

I ride from Clapham Common until I turn left at Kennington Park and head towards Lambeth/Waterloo/Imax.

The day after Storm Ali I suffered two punctures on the same commute due to sharp, metallic road debris. After that I said **** it and went tubeless. It was a lot easier to set up than I was expecting (wide internal diameter rims help) and last Monday in the dark I ran over what sounded like a coffee mug (London roads are the best) which cut my tyre but the sealant did its job. I made it the remaining 3 miles to work with a soft tyre and pumped it up again and it's been fine since.

I've ridden with Shamrock, and I can without a doubt say that it's the engine :D:D
Oh no he didn't! Haha :D

Even worse this morning! Brutal storm overnight woke us at 3-4am, grr! Block headwind in to work this morning - not quite what my tired legs needed! At least the rain not as bad as forecast yesterday & today.

More reason for a PM ;)
P+1?

I see quite a few members of your Berko cycling club is setting records all over the place @BennyC pretty impressive
Affectionately called 'The Berks'?! :D

It's only really an upgrade in the sense that it's newer and runs a much better (+ newer) groupset. The frame is still aluminium and very similar geometry to the Triban 3, which if you've had no problems with and was looking for a bike to replace the 3 I'd say you can't go wrong. It'll have better braking from the discs (cable hy/rd) and some more comfort from 28mm tyres, but I wouldn't expect it to ride much differently.

If you where looking for a different bike (more comfortable/faster/lighter/aero) to run alongside your 3 I'd say look elsewhere.

And what on earth is a CS7? Some kinda cycle route? Oh nvm, found it. You londoners are damn spoilt with your cycle superhighways ain't ya! Jealous!

I got grief for holding up traffic turning into the start of a cycle path yesterday and have had cars overtake me while I'm trying to cross the oncoming carriageway to it while towing my little one behind in a trailer. Can't win & utterly terrifying that drivers will overtake the car in front (which is letting me turn) rather than wait for 2s without realising that I'm turning. I'd show you a googlemaps streetview but the cycle path didn't exist in 2009 when the google car went past. Even google doesn't bother with Herefordshire! lol

That's me sold.

Have a friend interested in buying the two 28mm GP4seasons I have on my shelf, so going to grab 2 Specialized '2bliss' Roubaix Pro 30/32mm when next at the LBS. Have tubeless valves just need to figure out the best rim tape to use and sealant. Probably will go with stans due to the name being well recommended, but would avoid buying the overpriced kit as I don't need valves. Anyone with any better recommendations for tape and sealant? :)
