I recently attended a short course run by a medical claims analyst at which he was explaining some of the myths that exist around what causes accidents. Most were obvious but there were a couple of odd ones that he spoke about.
Firstly, I didn't know that more than 75% of drivers don't actually witness a collision they are involved in because they close their eyes when it becomes apparent what is about to happen. Also, around 20% of people have a vividly accurate premonition of a crash in the five seconds before contact takes place.
Maybe they're obvious but the one that gave us a giggle is that whilst many people commonly suffer flight-or-fright anxiety when in accidents, do you know that is the only occasion where a sober male (females are different, obviously!) can urinate involuntarily whilst sitting down?
Basically, if you're sober and sitting down, however desperate you are for a wee, you won't do it involuntarily because the body won't allow it. Contrary to popular belief, you can't wet yourself whilst driving or sitting in a car, etc!
So next time someone shouts "stop the car/coach!!" ... don't worry, you really don't need to!
