dark rock 4 vs dark rock pro 4

They'll both be very good, within a degree or two of each other, and 4.8GHz is very achievable.

I believe the main improvement in the Pro is memory clearance.

you want the pro for memory clearance issues, even then with very tall memory you will have to bend it a little to accommodate very tall memory or remove the heat spreader from the memory. I had colourful bling LED ram so decided to send it back and get AIO till my water cooling setup is done or when i can be bothered doing it but the dark rock pro is a really nice heatsink, pain in the ass to install because you will have to remove your motherboard completely to install it.

Hey, comparing these 2 coolers, if trying to get a 8700k to 4.8ghz or so, will either do the job or shall i get the pro?

Dark Rock Pro 4 is about 5c cooler than Dark Rock 4. Dark Rock Pro 4 is 163x136x146mm in size with 7x 6mm heatpipes, 1x 120mm & 1x 135mm fans while Dark Rock 4 is 159x136x96mm with 6x 6mm heatpipes and 1x 135mm fan.

What RAM do you have?

Any computer system needs the case airflow adjusted / optimized to components being used .. and almost all cases either come with garbage fans or not enough fans so at the least additional fans are almost always needed while many need all new fans.

The dark 4 can’t clear this ram.

Not sure if the pro could

Lol

I have this ram with dark 4. Had to use dims 2 and 4 to make it work.

Not sure how the dark pro 4 would fit?
That stuff isn't RAM, it's hi-rise condo stuff. :p
It's 47mm tall .. about the tallest RAM there is.

Now, what case and motherboard do you have? I might be able to suggest so top tier extreme cooling coolers that will fit. I assume you have a graphics card to go in too?

I know...it’s crazy. Got a haf x so clearance isn’t an issue. Don’t want to go AIO or water. Would like to stay on air.

Gigabyte z390 pro but it’s going back.

I'm currently looking at g skill trident 3200hz cl14 altho not sure if im throwing away money with that

Gigabyte z390 pro but it’s going back.
Haf X has 190mm CPU clearance
Gigabyte Z390 Pro has about 90mm center CPU to near side of nearest x16 PCIe, about 69 to near side of x1 and about 53 center to near side of RAM socket.

NH-U14S will definitely clear RAM and is very good cooler, but it's not pretty. It's £62.99

TRUE Spirit 140 Power is even better but OcUK do not stock Thermalright products and they are kinda hard to find in UK.

G Skill Trident Z is 44mm tall so very tall RAM. I have found tall RAM to often cause motherboard components to run warmer than shorter RAM and modern RAM does not use enough voltage to need any heat spreader at all. These tall RAM are no better than shorter RAM with same specs and no heat spreaders.

I understand the problem of finding normal RAM these days. Tall foofoo RAM is the norm. Is there other RAM with similar specs at lower price?

Also what motherboard and case are you using? Then like above I can suggest coolers.

I’m not sure on Mobo as waiting for reviews but likely the z390 gigabyte ultra Mobo with WiFi. I can’t find many cl14 3200 ram.. unless I go for lower profile cl14?

This is so confusing haha :(

What case are you using? Sorry if you post it above. Thread is getting confusing with you and Robert896r1 both asking questions.
Shorter RAM can be same performance spec as tall RAM, it's just not as easy to find. I don't know what prices are like. It's been a few years sense I last had to buy any. ;)

Define R4 has 170mm CPU clearance so will clear most any cooler .. as long as RAM is not too tall or fan fits behind RAM.

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra has 52mm center CPU to near side of RAM socket and about 90mm to near side of nearest x16 PCIe. There is x1 PCIe 20.3mm closer to CPU but few people use it.

I've found Fractal Design CPU clearance to be conservative and fit 2-3mm taller coolers than specs say will fit. ;)

Thanks, I went for noctua d15s for the ram compatability.

I’ll pribably buy the fractal r6 rather than recycling my old case.

I chose trident ram which is 44mm.. couldn’t find any cl14 cheaper
