NHS: Here's £80k of taxpayers money despite the fact you're a murderer serving life
Also NHS: You may be a RAF hero who fought for this country, but tough luck mate

Trans murderer serving life will receive £80k gender reassignment on the NHS

RAF hero. 95, told by NHS to sell home to pay for his care because 'he's survived too long'

Good stuff.

Here's a crowdfund for the RAF chap and his partner: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hero-bob-frost

Regardless of what you feel about the whole transgender surgery thing and whether or not it should be available on the NHS, I don't think spending that much on a murderer should ever be considered. Well, unless it's a life saving operation (just to keep the human rights crowd happy).

Convicts should get nothing but basic health care, minimum to sustain life.

I have no problem with either of these, once you strip away the sensationalism. I fully expect that I'll have to sell my home when I become elderly to pay for care if so required.

Sorry, but doesn’t sit right with me. A convicted murderer shouldn’t be allowed such an extravagant use of taxpayers money.

Well that's the price we pay for socialised health care, you can't force people on to social health care (the NHS) then deprive them of it when they get thrown in jail. So you either classify gender dysphoria as an illness and treat it, or you don't, but the same has to apply to everyone. Personally I'm not sold on the idea that surgery is the go to treatment for gender dysphoria, but it's too politicised at this point.

This pretty much.

Well...no. you can do just that. You can certainly restrict it to life threatening conditions and most definitely restrict holistic medicines.

The NHS isn't a privilege to be taken away by the government when you misbehave. If it becomes that I'd like to opt out of National Insurance and go fully private.

Also if you can't figure out why the government having the ability to deprive prisoners of medical treatment is unacceptable then you need to study more history.

I think some of them are taking the mick though so as to cause as much hassle for the system as possible - this guy was also pursuing the transgender stuff https://metro.co.uk/2015/07/14/inma...rds-have-to-call-him-mighty-almighty-5295839/ but I can't find the links to it now and no idea how far it went (also not the only prisoner to change their name to Obi-Wan Kenobi - https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/official-prisoner-eb6712-is-now-obi-wan-286490 - this one was my friend at school went totally off the rails).

Why is the NHS not a privilege? It's certainly not a human right.
Don't play by the rules of a civilised society and you don't receive the benefits of said society.

I 100% disagree with £80k transgender surgery, I don't think it should be the de facto treatment for gender dysphoria, if the NHS is prescribing that treatment though then it should be available to everyone. If our legal system allows people to change their name, then that's the price we pay for it. The guard should have course be able to refer to the prisoner in what ever way he likes assuming it isn't discriminatory.
