Black debris in Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme

To be honest, I think it's better without.

Get some Googone to remove any sticky residue. Run some coloured liquid and be happy

Agreed does look better in my opinion, going to look good with coloured liquid in. Never liked the look of the AIB vendor blocks with the stickers/graphics all over.

It's scratched and I'm not gonna keep it forever. It has no value now.

Bit of fine polish will take those marks out easily as it’s only acrylic. Shame Gigabyte glued it in the first place.

Looks good in clear though. Especially with some coloured liquid.

You guys really ok with sanding it? I'm scared just to the thought!

Anyway gigabyte replied and they told changing any part will void the warranty and I need to RMA it. -_-

Here is the picture I promised. I hope it helps. I don't know if it'll look alright with holes. Let me try to fix mine first to find a way to restore it. I still haven't run it over with the car xD

Thanks! But I may just remove them I agree with people here I think it looks good without the sticker.

I'm not aware of other polishing methods. There is the blowtorch one too but that's much more risky.

Yeah you could sand with really high grit sand paper but i think depending on the marks, it probably wouldnt be worth it. Just best off polishing with some very fine polishing compound and some elbow grease.

If thats the case with gigabyte then i'd have just fitted an EKWB block as that won't require the removal of any parts other than the pcb. Then just refitted the original block if you had any issue with the card in the future.

So, I left the aluminum part under the car between 2 flat pieces of wood for a day and nothing happened. So I tried a damn hammer. But I made it worse. Why can't gigabyte just send me one for like 20$ + shipping!? :(

Leaving it without is NOT an option for me because the resale value will plummet and I'd have to remove the eagle's eye as well which is imprinted.

Is this going to be mounted vertically?

How bent is the aluminium? I can't see it on my phone.

Yes, it's mounted vertically. The damage was noticeable but I did make it more noticeable trying to fix it unfortunately. I expected it overnight under the car to get flattened but when it didn't I got desperate.

Just get a ek block. The resale value is pretty poor for cards with blocks already on. Not everyone wants to water cool a old card (old when you come to selling it) but if it had the usual fan it's worth more to someone.

it came with the Block. It had no air cooler. But yeah If Gigabyte won't sell me one then I'll end up buying a 3rd party waterblock. Sucks that I'd have to pay like 200 bucks more but it's the price I pay for the learning experience to buy a stock PCB and a 3rd party WB when I want to watercool a part. That and not buy gigabyte again.

Let me help.
When you hand down this extremely expensive luxury item to your children (the one you like of course), and they then do so to their child, the story of the "strange black debris" will be told and they'll thank their dad for their turn to hold on to the heirloom and to have been tought the lesson of "don't worry about **** that ain't broke"....wait hang on.

Yeah..it's resale has just plumetted to practically zero.

I Bought one of these cards about a year ago and had thoughts of cleaning the waterblock until i read this. Gigabyte what were you thinking!

maybe you could make a template as to where the screws are so others can use it to drill through it to get to the screws instead of ripping the aluminium sticker off... I might try and email gigabyte for one.... don't like my chances though.
