Being too Political / Antagonistic

One of my many failings. When I'm not called "Mr Dunning-Krueger" I'm simply called "donkeyhole," by all who know me :p

Another one of my many failings :p
Favour request: could you wait until my sig rotation lines up with this admission? I know it's an ask but I don't know how to program it myself :(

fake e: his name was Kruger, without the additional 'e' :thumbs up:

Yeah the era of Trump probably isn’t helping matters :(

I often wonder if whether people being too political / antagonistic is one of the reasons Trump won in the first place. Anyone who dares say anything which isn't left / centre left politically tends to get immediately jumped upon, whether online or in person. But there's nothing stopping the same person going into a polling booth and voting for a nutter: they can lie to all their friends about it and avoid arguments, whilst feeling satisfied within themselves that they "did the right thing".

Which is why people like President Trump, he's an honest man, he speaks his mind. You ask him a question, he gives you a clear direct answer. . . .
Which changes with the weather:
Politico Magazine said:
ON ABORTION:

I’m totally pro-choice. (Fox News, October 31, 1999)

Look, I’m very pro-choice. I hate the concept of abortion. I hate it. I hate everything it stands for. I cringe when I listen to people debating the subject, but you still—I just believe in choice. … I am strongly for choice, and yet I hate the concept of abortion. … I am pro-choice in every respect … but I just hate it. (NBC News, October 24, 1999)

I’m pro-life. (CPAC, February 10, 2011)

I am very, very proud to say that I’m pro-life. (Cleveland, Ohio, August 6, 2015)

ON HOMOSEXUALITY:

I think the institution of marriage should be between a man and a woman. (The Advocate, February 15, 2000)

If two people dig each other, they dig each other. (Trump University “Trump Blog,” December 22, 2005)

I’m against gay marriage. (Fox News, April 14, 2011)

I'm personally beat regarding any political / antagonistic discussion. I've done that elsewhere. Even when you're right and have overwhelming evidence to back it up, silence is the reward along with long-term resentment that will boil up later. A minority will thank you and support you, but the seething resentment of those on the other side is forever.

I've now assumed a more innocent state of mind that no longer goes at loggerheads with anything controversial, though I'll still cultivate what I've learnt in private.

I can at least say I was talking about real issues, and stayed well away from extrapolating the situation of a Down's syndrome person to anything else. Those are bottom feeding trolls.

The amount of times I've began writing a post or reply online only to scrap it is massive. I just think to myself "What's the point?" before clicking post and often the answer is there is none.

Most people in the real world will be happy for you.

The keyboard warrior types with an axe to grind hardly ever show up.

I remember watching a programme many years ago (before the Internet became mainstream). It was looking at the difference between people chatting together in person face to face vs typing via a computer in different rooms. They found that the people who had less social skills hardly spoke face to face. But typing via a computer made their opinions known. The result was that typing via a computer equalized the strength of peoples character giving people with less social skills a chance to voice their opinion, whereas in real life conversations tend to be dominated by 1 or 2 people.

Pretty much. I wouldn't be surprised if being a 'lurker' is both the lowest and highest state of evolution one can attain on the net.

You have TDS, there is no cure. (。•́︿•̀。)

Nixon was the most maligned US president in history, but was surprisingly effective / did much that was good.

Just saying.

This reminds me how I can't be assed elaborating on / justifying anything I know in online discussion.
