Royalist or Republican?

I can't help feeling that if the royal family ran the country, made laws and stepped in on important trials the world would be a better place. Off with his head!

Royalist!

That way I can love, respect, and pledge undying loyalty to my head of state and still utterly loathe and despise the leader of the current government (Whoever they might be)

Republicans do not have this luxury!

:D

Thread starts well. Promising topic.

Shots fired! Thread going down in flames. Bail out. Bail out. Bail out!

:D:D:D

Republican here, simply on basic principles. I'm quite nationalistic which usually goes with loving the Royals, allegedly. But I think they can all go back to Germany as far as I'm concerned - self-determination and democracy forever!

Imagine being a Roman Catholic in the UK and your head of state is an iconic part of a system that denies you the most fundamental of democratic rights, you can't be the prime minister.

It's real progressive stuff.

Imagine. Isn't Tony Blair Catholic? And Theresa May?

Damn, I read the thread title as Loyalist or Republican, and thought, wow, this is going to be spicy.

Disappoint :(

On Royals, I think Meghan Markle acted her way to being a princess, and they will divorce pretty quick. She comes over as extremely fake, and not particularly nice, or talented.

Harry Paying child maintenance should be pretty funny.

Logic says we should be a republic. The reality is a royal head of state is much better than many of the elected heads you see in other countries.

There is some sense in having someone trained from birth to serve the country, who is apolitical, rather than an egotistical businessman or self serving gravy trainer.

The **** will hit the fan when the first inline is an incompetent liability. Charles is pushing the boundaries.

I'd still love to see two separate correlated surveys where one question is are you a royalist and the other are you a creationist and if not do you believe in God.

Wouldn't class myself as either but it's not hard to see the value the royals provide. The tourism they bring in and the amount of soft power they hold is incredibly useful especially with the current government looking like such a mess.

It would take a presidential role ages (if ever) to gain the same amount of respect and probably wouldn't cost any less as the royal buildings would need to be kept maintained as listed historic treasures.
