Say you’d won the £115M Euro Millions, would you go public?

Nope.

There are about 10 people in the world I'd tell, those would be 10 people who would all benefit in a (small) degree from me winning. Everybody else including 99% of my family could go **** themselves.

I would not give money to charity, there are too many worthwhile causes out there. I wouldn't want the guilt of giving to one case and not giving to another, therefore I'd give nothing to anybody.

Thats just the kind of thing tight rich people say! You are already half way there mate ;)

You're a goddamn idiot going public with a big lottery win. Tell who you want (aka very few) but to go to the press, foolish.

If you gave £5000 to 100 different charities, that would still be less than 0.5% of your winnings.

My mate's brother is the guy that turns up on your doorstep to talk through your win.

It's a long time since I spoke to him about it, so it's a bit hazy, but I think he sells the going public option with an offer of proper advice from the National Lottery financial advisers and whatever other emotional councillors they have for coaching people through suddenly becoming very wealthy.

I'd definitely not go public.

I'd tell everyone I have to go meet some prince in Nigeria who said I have unclaimed inheritance and then just never come back.

Sorry if already discussed, but what are the reasons people ever go public? Are they incentivised to do so? Maybe they get paid some kind of marketing fee by the lottery company?

Absolutely wouldn't tell a soul, except from the Mrs who'd be sworn to secrecy.

But we don't do the lottery, so it'll never happen :D

You can buy those advice from someone else.

1 piece of advice would be not going out and spend it all....

2nd piece of advice is keep it quiet so people don’t come knocking.

Any emotional or financial questions or problems I have, I can pay for it with the 100million.

I wouldn't go public at all.

People would see cars and nicer house etc so I'd probably tell anyone who asked that I had a small win and look externally to be squandering it all whilst setting myself up to be very looked after for the future :D

Edit: You'd probably want to get your claim in before they start telling everyone the ticket was bought in your villages local post office or wherever mind!

I always understood it as cheesyboy explains, they try to sell you the idea of advisors etc. versus going it alone and finding your own way to manage your new found fortune.

Most people wouldn't ask. Unless you decide to stay where you are.

If you buy a place in a nicer area, then get a car to go with the area that you are in, no one will blink an eye-lid. If your neighbour asks you what kind of work you are in, I would say something generic like Consultancy. Or even more vague like inheritance of some stocks and you sold it all.

If you already have a half decent job, just tell the truth, unless you are 18 year old straight out of school, no one is going to bat an eye-lid of someone in their 30's or 40's living in a nice house with a nice car.

I definitely wouldn't go public, you'd have to be mental to. Only benefit is to the lottery itself for the PR, you can only lose.
