Veganuary?

Seriously? Do we really need a month for this? I want to raise awareness for meat eaters, who is up for Meatrurary?
This month is January for me; goodness knows or cares what it is for anyone else. Live and let live but please do is privately and quietly.

these threads are always the same ,big brave meat eaters who eat slaughtered shrink wrapped crap (my 6 hours in a meat factory that supplies the big supermarkets turned me veggie) having a go at people above them in evolutionary terms.
lets face it meat eaters are a dying breed ,just like the animals they eat ,,it will have a stigma like smoking soon ,then in decades to come they will be gnawing on bones in a corner somewhere

Lol and this is why vegetarians/vegans have a bad rep for being absolute idiots, attitudes like this

I don't like bones, flesh only.

The most annoying folk are those promoting regular red meat consumption, congratulations on accelerating your atherosclerosis.

The thing is, what is the point in promoting a culture of regular meat eating?

We don't realize the long term cultural changes advertisements will have on peoples views. Look at how the fast food was a once in a while treat once upon a time and how many would simply prefer a home cooked meal over gluttonously shoving that crap in their face. Easier, bigger and cheaper have become the selling points for food and has helped to create a food binge culture with low quality takeaways and ready meals being the norm. No wonder obesity is so high.

I am quite happy for people to rave on about Veganuary. I think peoples attitudes towards what we eat needs to change for a number of reasons and people who usually eat meat having a go is how it happens. Oxford scientists recommended a meat tax to the government recently to combat obesity. I may not be vegetarian but i would be absolutely fine if they introduced a tax on red meat.

I had a vegan girl get really nasty with me on Facebook because of a photo of my (at the time) 3 year old daughters dinner.
I mean she absolutely blew up, just because I posted a photo of this pizza I’d made for my little girl that had meat on it.
Was shocking just how angry she was lol.

I view veganism as I do religion.
If someone wants to follow/believe, and it makes them feel good and happy then why not.
It’s just when they try to change what I do etc I get fed up of it.
Each to their own.

Edit*
Amusingly when I got with my wife in 2011 she was a vegetarian and I was really respectful of it so we used to cook really nice main dish that was meat free like a nice pasta, then I’d grill some chicken up for myself on the side.
She would even cook the chicken etc for me and never judged anyone, just totally relaxed about it.
When she got pregnant her craving was KFC, I bought a bucket and she devoured the whole lot.
Then came bacon, then burgers, then everyother meat.
Never went back to being a vegetarian and she says now she’s got no idea how she did it for so long lol

I'm not a vegan, In fact I eat meat far too much because it's so nomnom

But I've no problem with promoting healthier/vegetarian/vegan eating. It's better for the planet, even if it's not so good for our taste buds

My wife is lactose intolerant so tends to eat vegan food from restaurants, even though she isn't an actual vegan.

I wish I could enjoy veg as much as meat, but it just doesn't do it for me.

most meat is tasteless. in fact the worse the meat the more flavour it has. the better the meat the less flavour it has.

also all the spices, herbs, etc that you add to meat to give it flavour can also be added to vegetables. surprise surprise.

i don't like people banging on about being vegan either but the amount of moronic info spouted about meat is also just as bad.

if you find vegetarian food bland then you are crap at cooking tbh.

I thought this way too when in the past we'd tried to swap out a few meals with "vegetarian" versions but made the mistake that I think a lot of people make in that you can't just take a meat-based meal, swap the meat for more vegetables and expect it to work. It seems so obvious saying this now but you've got to swap the meat for something else that has plenty of protein etc. in it otherwise it ends up really unsatisfying and you're hungry later in the evening and the next day... Beans, sweetcorn, eggs, lentils etc. and then it's fine

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I think we've gone from meat 7 days a week to more like 4-5 days, and I can see that increasing slightly more as we learn a few more recipes... I don't think it should be so black and white as going completely vegan though, just cutting back a bit would make a difference

You want to be a vegan or veggie that's great. I eat meat. Stay out of my life I stay out of yours and don't spout nonsense trying to convert us by saying wont someone think of the animals it's just silly and your never going to change someones mind like that.

As someone who's lactose intolerant, vegans are fantastic news for me. Even in the first few days of this year, loads of new vegan products seem to have come out. For me that means I can have things like chocolate, cheese, milk, almost anything I could have before without it making me ill. I'm glad they exist and are making changes in the food industry.

I couldn't be vegan myself, but I do have a moral dilemma with eating meat myself. Right now, I can't see me giving it up, and I'd never be able to give up eggs, but maybe if the meat alternatives get really really good (like this lab grown burger apparently is) I'd look at being vegetarian. I just don't really see why you need to put yourself in that box...it's great being a vegetarian but should that label you put on yourself really stop you have some chicken once a year? Same applies to vegans.

My wife is also doing veganuary. I'm fully supportive of her, but I'm not going to do it myself. She's making vegan macaroni cheese tonight. I'm not sure I've ever eaten a macaroni cheese, so it'll be a first. I'll probably put some bacon in it though...
