Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Hi is it just broadband you got ?
also could you share a image of the bottom of your contract the area that show the discount they offer and how they did it ?
maybe with it I could get the same deal.

Yes, it's just broadband. I got £50 credit with it too. Here's what you requested:

Virginmedia retention know how to really annoy you for the last 2 years the UK team has been worse the the india team.

I just called 3 time over the past 2 days and got a higher price each time.
I called yesterday and lady told me the 200mb deal i have is the best deal even if it was cheaper 3 months ago and they cant do any better on it but the offer is available to me for 6 months but she did not tell me it would go up after to £45. so I pushed asked if I could get any better and was told she could do 350mb for £35 12 month I told her about the deal above and she told me that would not be possible we cant do it so I told her ill think about it and call back.

I called today and spoke to a chap who had a look and told me he cant told me they cant do anything on the plan i'm on and the best he could do on the 350mb would be £39 and thats the best I told him about the price from the day before and told me they could not have given me a lower price before i have it wrong so i told him to leave it.

I called back again around 8:30 spoke to a chap who seamed to be the same person ( same name, same voice) He said leaving in a bit and his system is off, I told him i would wait if he had a look, he had a look and told me he cant do anything the the price is what I was told by the last chap, I told him the issue about the price and I was already given a better price yesterday and to see if you can d any better and the price is that you can take it or leave it they cant do any better, we are in the same team no one can do any better. Then went on to belittle me for a few mins for wanting a better price or thinking about switching ( Some of his better words " No one is as good as us, Your thinking switching poor quality broadband to save a few penny's ? ") If I was not going to cancel they give you a reason why.

So I requested a cancellation so he tried the push me again I told him just cancel so he quickly changed his mind and offered me credit of my account, I told hi I still want to cancel and he asked if would wait stopped talking for a few sec and then came back and said he spoke to his manager and and he offered £2 off instead of credit that what you would save if you switched so i can offer you that I cancelled so he belittled me again hoping I would change my mind and because I did reply (just cancel) he had to cancel.

Now hopefully I get a call back.

I was offered £3 off when I phoned up, so I just went through with the 30 days notice. Two weeks later I got a phone call with that deal.

I cancelled on New Year’s Eve, got a call back from them yesterday and they agreed 1/2 the price I was paying now. New hub and box for free as well + £50 credit.

Edit: all new kit is arriving tomorrow.

What are you getting and what are you paying if you dont mind me asking, it will give me a idea what to aim for.

I dont mind VM its the fastest but it always has its own issues.
1. Customer support is the worst of any company UK based support or not.
2.The Wifi has been rubbish since I got VM and they have not been able to fix it,
3. The price seam to go up at least once during the agreed plan.
4. You get a lot of false information

They'll call multiple times. Good luck!
Thanks again.

Full house TV. 100 broadband and evenin/weekend calls.

All new kit for £58/month 12 months contract but discounted for 18. With a £50 credit.

I was on 200meg with them a few years back, but it was so over subscribed it wasn’t reliable, so dropped it down. 100 is rock solid and is fine for my needs.

I whould be more interested in FTTP for proper synchronous speeds but that won’t happen any time soon where I live.

Edit: the wifi is ok when you close to the hub or general browsing, all my important stuff is hard wired. I don’t know what the new hub is like, but I’m tempted by the Unifi kit to go completely overkill.

I still have issues even if im only a few feat away, I get the wifi but its not stable, I get disconnection issues and slow speeds.

What hub do you have. I have a V2 and it’s mostly ok. If you stay with them after cancelling they will probably give you a new hub anyway.

Hi all, anyone knows roughly when they do the price increase and break there contract they usually drop it on us soon? i phoned last night I am stuck in contract till Aug and will get charged 66 pounds I would just cancel and pay but knowing my luck they will change the price as soon as a do that LOL.

It as crept up to £69 a month from £40 over the last few years I get 2 boxes HD no sport or movies but get the rest, 200 Meg, phone line that is not connected,

Once they do I am canceling the tv side to half the bill, i will keep the 200meg BB don't need tv from them now would rather have Freeview and Netflix

Thanks

I'm not 100% but I think its normally October / November.

Ahhh, that’s what I’m getting. I haven’t found any positive review on that. Looks like my Pfsence + UniFi project will be a go then.

You may need to because they wont sort the Wifi other then just reset and change channels.

It may just be me but it seam like something has slowed down since cancelling, I get a lot more buffering when streaming now.

So far looks ok, full line speed over 5ghz channel to my whole downstairs and I can get around 50-60 upstairs furthest away. Much better than the old one.

Good for all my WI-FI stuff, anything where I need internal speed (I.e access to NAS) is hardwired.

Don’t know if it’s a good idea to leave the 5 and 2.4ghz channel with the same SSID?

Is there any way to see if my area is over utilised? My BT contract is coming to an end and the 350mb from virgin for £32 is looking mighty fine, but the last thing I want is to get a 350mb package and only get 10-15mb during peak hours because of too many subscribers.

Spoke to VM again yesterday for the monthly discount least they've given me £10 off again, still on with upgrading the network in my area and April is still the 'fix' date.

It's not foolproof, but search the first part of your postcode (eg W12) on the VM community forums. You'll get a feel for complaints etc and may get some 'tip off' posts moaning about long term congestion or issues. If there's nothing there, it's not proof of great service but it's a good start. You could ask any neighbours you know with VM for a better idea.

That's the best way to do it. Get your neighbours involved and doing the same. When it starts to hit their bottom line, they'll move faster. We had awful utilisation issues in our street after moving (from a perfect area, doh), and I had VM credit us 10 a month every month. The 'estimated fix date' was always moving. Then I made friends with a dozen neighbours, and got them all to do the same (and told them to tell THEIR neighbour friends); so now VM were paying at least 120 a month in 'crap service discounts'. Strangely, the area's entire network equipment was upgraded at the head end soon after, and we've had perfect service for a year now... lol.
