Tracker subscription... err what? Loophole?

Emphasis on the "Ass".

Oh its you. Need I say more. Game lobbies quiet this morning I guess. :D

Put the handbags away fellas.

So managed to nail vodafone down this morning anyway.

Car will still be fully tracked even without a subscription, just ring up the police, get a crime reference number and then they will work with them to recover the car, the subscription just covers the driver cards (aka if you try move the car without the driver card they will call).

There you go, £400 a year saved.

Did you get this in writing? I'd want that angle covered tbh. Deniability is a wonderful thing for companies like this.

My car was stolen a couple of years ago and it turned out that it had a Vodafone tracker installed, the process went something like this:

- The police told me that the car was on a database as having a tracker fitted and gave me all the details.
- I spoke with Vodafone and they said they could activate the tracker for ~£400.
- I told the insurance and they agreed to cover the cost.
- The insurance, police and Vodafone sorted it out between themselves.
- Tracker activated and the car was recovered.

I'd probably just pay it tbfh. As I've said before. It's wide out in the open on your drive. If you can't garage it then at least secure it to the hilt as best possible

Nah, im not paying that amount of money for what is a very basic service. I could build a basic geofenced GPS for less than a years subscription.

Well, we'll see what your insurance company say when it comes to paying out if it gets stolen.

A tracker requires an active SIM which costs money. Vodafone won't necessarily keep that running with no subscription either.

As the post below shows they do get deactivated. In your case though the insurance company is under the impression you already have a maintained tracker.

Did you just assume my insurance?

(Also, your post is wrong, my insurance company only want a tracker installed, they dont care if I use the DRS sub or not)

Regardless of whether it is working. Okay.

If you think this tracker will work forever, then you are wrong. Without an active subscription there is no guarantee of that.

Insurers also normally require a certificate from the provider.

edit:

I suggest you look into what having a Cat5 tracker actually means.

Bit of a risk that though, as whilst not under subscription if the unit fails, you won't know until you try to have it tracked...

This point really.

Whilst i agree with you that paying a stupid amount for an older tracker when a newer one is significantly cheaper, you said you had a better quote than £500 for a lifetime sub - i think i'd choose this route.

It's probably only the equivalent of 1-2 months of fuel in that beast :D

Ah I remember the good old days of having a tracker in my last car. I left the bloody fob at home more times than I took it with me. Nearly every time I took the car out I got a phone call. I do not miss those days :D
