Would you like a receipt Sir

Guess they didn't let you return the ring?
Shame to let it go to waste I suppose... :p

I'm guessing you didn't follow the full conversation.

7 months ago people were ragging on me for splitting our food shopping in to 'Mine/Hers'

e.g. If I buy an expensive 4k blu-ray whilst at Tesco, it's not really right to make my wife pay towards it. Equally if she buys loads of stuff I won't eat (vegan meals or whatever) then she pays for that, instead of splitting it 50/50

They were implying this was bizarre and they are surprised she hadn't left me, and that I should keep the receipt for the engagement ring.

yeah won't be giving my email address, a printed receipt is good enough
at least some shops are starting to say 'do you need your receipt'
can't stand these shops that say nothing and you have to ask for your receipt. i know it's a small purchase but offer me my god damn receipt

Ah fair enough. I think thats a sensible and modern approach to be honest... But then again I'm not convinced marriage is sensible or modern anymore. :p

Papers receipts are pointless.
Never asked for one never wanted one.

Never ever used one.
Well unless you're keeping track of what you've spent, need it for accounting purposes, for expenses, proof of purchase etc.

I probably go overboard a bit but hang on to most receipts for a while at least.

Went to Halfords for first time in absolutely ages for some bulbs and the checkout wife asked for my email address. I asked what for and she said to send my e-receipt. I stupidity gave her it instead of just saying I didn't have one (put on the spot, not thinking). Now I'm getting Spam from Halfords. Great.

That’s either a huge mistake on Halfords part or you’re mistaken. As marketing material has been opt in for a while now. If that’s not the case remind them it’s a opt in policy now.

Sure they will come to their senses!

I’ve noticed quite a few clothes shops ask for your email now to email your receipt instead of printing one. Probably why I get spam mail more than ever. It’s also Quite annoying standing there having to spell it out to them because they can’t understand what your saying.Would be hilarious having a rude or explicit email address name to give in just for a laugh.

As you seemed to have worked out, it's a scam to harvest your email, and by extension, implied consent to be spammed. Tell them you want a paper receipt. Halfrauds and PCPants love this game as well.

They are asking you to opt in. That's the point.

No they are asking you for a receipt not if it’s ok to send marketing material. If they asking that as well then fair enough but I’ve never experienced that..

The rules are pretty clear on this you have to specify that you would like to receive marketing material. Implied consent doesn’t cut it.
