ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q - what to look out for upon delivery and setup?

Hi everyone,

I have just made a purchase of the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, it is coming Wednesday.

Basically I am just after advice on what to look out for in regards to it being a bad panel, I have heard of mixed reviews about light bleed and colour discolouration so can anybody advise on the things my eyes should look for upon set up?

Watching this with interest as I was ready to buy that exact monitor last weekend but was then put off by the light bleed and dead pixel comments in the reviews I glanced. For the high price tag it needs to be perfect.

Usual stuff.

Dont forget there is bleed and glow to consider.

Mine isn't bad on either. But in a dark room expect to see it. Mine is uniformed on bleed. Very minor with a flare in top right.

I've seen so much worse I think my monitor is perfect. Thanks god. Horrible buying experience monitors are.

I don't really play in a dark room to be fair. I have bought it from a place with a good return policy but just want to know what I am looking for regarding defects on the panel lottery. I have never had a gaming IPS before

Just bear in mind that people in these forums are PC enthusiasts and are super hyper critical about any perceived weakness/defects in the PC products they purchase. Don't let anyone tell you its not good enough and it must be returned because of a bit of light bleed, it's an IPS panel, there WILL be light bleed. Just a symptom inherent to the panel tech I'm afraid. Dead pixels on the other hand is a manufacturing fault and should be judged much more harshly when it comes to returning a monitor. Personally one or two dead pixels in the monitor corners where you won't see them unless you look for them is something I could live with, but those same dead pixels in the centre of the screen would be an instant return/refund/replacement.

Just use the monitor for yourself for a day or two and see if its acceptable to you...

While I agree with what you're saying in general, IPS glow is a feature of the technology, while backlight bleed is a fault and an indicator of poor build or poor QC.

I have a 27" IPS coming today as well, so let's see how good or bad mine is.

If anybody here has ordered specifically from OCUK, how is their returns policy? Is there a no questions asked refund policy if dead pixels are found?

Contact and ask. That way you get a first idea of what a company is like to deal with.

So if there was damage to the box to concern you enough, you refuse to take delivery which then means you are leaving it in the hands of a courier with no return label etc?? Would you phone the retailer at that point and tell them you refused delivery and want another one sent? I'd be interested to know the responses of all parties, part getting lost, retailer not refunding or resupplying until part delivered Back to them. Do you think the courier could be trusted to do a proper job lol? Then what you think will happen when the screen gets back to the retailer? They'll probably just say they tested and it's fine and send it back.

So if there is a massive hole or tear in the box or corner bashed in and you let the courier go and it turns out the monitor doesnt work you are happy with this ? If you dont the supplier can turn round and claim you damaged it and should have checked it on delivery. Its quite often in the T&C.

In any case if you refuse delivery the courier already has the return address to send it back to. How do you think they collected it in the first place ! Same with undelivered items if they have an account with say a electronic retailer then usually part of the contract would be to have undelivered items returned. Common business practice to protect your customers.

I ordered a Panasonic TV 50", courier dropped it off and I saw the corner was bashed in. I made him wait till I opened the box and took the TV out and the screen was cracked from that corner so I refused delivery. He took it away I rang up the supplier told them what had happened and they refunded my money they were only happy to because prior to this I ordered a Samsung TV and had same problem big hole in middle and the screen was broken. They were embarased.

I then went to Curry's and bought a TV vowing never to have one delivered again.

It isn't no questions asked. They follow some kind of 'standard' which determines how many stuck pixels are required for a monitor to be faulty depending on various factors. Otherwise, you can return within 14 days but you pay for the shipping.

Got my PG279Q yesterday and will say it is a very nice monitor, the jump in image quality going from 1080P to 1440P is noticeable as is the performance hit... Seems I was lucky in the panel lottery as I don't have any stuck/dead pixels and only minimal back-light bleed that isn't noticeable when in normal operation.

I got an AOC AG271QC and I'm not especially happy with the glow/bleed from the bottom-right corner which is fairly intrusive even when the monitor brightness is turned low. I also have several thumbnail-sized patches of bleed around the edges, where I guess the panel is badly clamped to the frame.

I have ordered a 32" VA to see if I can live with the ghosting. If I can, the AOC is going back.

Fingers crossed on getting a nice looking VA Panel , I did try a 35" VA..but the day I got it is the day it went straigt back in the box

For reasons of ghosting or something else? I am quite fond of VA colours, but must admit I'm worried about the reports of purple trails.

On the other hand, the IPS glow on this Acer appears like someone's shining a flashlight on the screen every time I look at it from an angle in a low-lit room. The VA is my last hope for monitor happiness!

It was ghastly , the smearing was really bad and the colours were almost like blobs of colour, it was an AGON 35" G-Sync, so never again for me lol
