Can't use Facebook

Last night, I finally decided to create an account on Facebook. Used my virgin media email address and then it said it can't connect to that so I updated it with my gmail address. Continued registration and got to the homepage and a list of people I know. It asked me to invite at least 5 people which I did. Shortly after that it said something about suspicious activity and asked me to upload a photo. Meanwhile they had blocked me from Facebook. This is the message I got

You can't use Facebook at the moment
We're reviewing the photo that you sent us.

We're always looking out for your security, so until then you won't be able to use Facebook.

Still showing that now. I've googled it and other people with the same issue say they waited days or weeks to get notified. I'm not really sure why this happened. Could it be swapping email addresses? Could it be my name? I used my proper name except that I shortened my surname to the first 3 letters. However, my friend took a look on facebook and told me there are a few instances of other people with the same name.

I've no idea how to get into my new account, any ideas?

Well I've got some musician friends who've been nagging me to get on facebook so that's why I signed up. But I'm also interested in certain aspects of facebook, like music networking, buying and selling instruments and generally joining and reading music groups. I'm not really interested in general socialising.

In before white knights telling everyone how fantastic facebook is

Facebook is not fantastic. Their policies are dark. For example, why don't they introduce a feature asking the persons why they would want to unfriend someone else, also to send some notifications of the poor act.
Why do people add others who they don't like and unfriend them at some point later?

It's ugly!

Typical fake american values...

What?

What?

LinkedIn always asks you where you know the contact from, limiting any spam contact requests to minimum.
Some antiviruses and other software asks you why you uninstalled them.
Google asks you why you don't want to see that ad anymore.

Why doesn't Facebook make the user experience more pleasant by limiting hostile acts of unfriending or spam "friends" spies?

Lol at 'unfriending' someone being a hostile act.

Did you manage to upload a photo? If so, was it of your face?

In the end, my account got disabled. So I created another and used my full surname. That would be appear to be what the problem was. Now I'm in Facebook and exploring and getting familiar with how it all works, it's pretty amazing so far I have to say. Quite surreal being able to search for pretty much anyone you ever knew.

Can't you get them to use WhatsApp? I know it's still Facebook-owned, but it's dead easy to use. We have set up a group for the whole family and it's not a problem for any of us. Hell my granny's 90 and she's on it all the time. Then you can have small groups like siblings or direct one-2-ones. It's just like MSN except that any images will embed on the chat which MSN didn't do.

Probably the worst bit, when one of your friends plays a silly game 'which celebrity do you look like' or whatever, the app devs not only have access to all your friends info, but all of their friends too, so you've had all your info donated to that app on behalf of a friend. Nice.
