Unlikely. It's almost certain that he'll be kept in protective custody.
 
Imo naming the scumbag helps immortalise him on the internet which is exactly what he wanted so i would be ok with this thread disappearing
 
Agreed. There was something bothering me about the thread earlier today but I couldn't put my finger on it. I've then seen later this afternoon that the PM has said that she will not dignify the murderer by using his name - and then it clicked. The thread title puts his name up in lights which I think is wrong. It's also an obvious attempt to continue the thread that harmony complained about being closed (which itself was closed IIRC).

e: My word, that Kiwi Farms guy can suck a ****, what an ass. I thought Something Awful had got them shut down a year or so ago but obviously not. I love the Detective's response though - nicely done :cool:

This is what my faith is all about, teaching us to love and forgive and not hate.

I have to say I have so so much respect for NZ with the way they have handled this atrocity. Dignified and respectful especially the PM who showed in a few mins what other world leaders do not have ie empathy.

The whole outpouring of grief and solidarity has brought tears to my eyes a few times. It’s just so easy to hate but so difficult to show love, respect and compassion.

NZ have my utmost respect for how they have handled this from the very start.
 
I was really impressed that they've pixelated his face in any of the media pictures. Shouldn't give that scumbag any limelight at all.
 
Yeah I wouldn't worry about Gökmen Tanis, as it's looking more and more likely that he has nothing to do with terrorism and is actually a mental health situation. (If the Dutch reporting I've read to be believed)

Years ago, probably back in the early 90s, there was a guy in the FBI, one of their senior profilers, who said that giving mass media coverage to serial killers, mass shootings, etc, would effectively give the perpetrators martyrdom and infamy. He warned that others would seek to emulate or outdo previous atrocities and nobody listened.

Shame the media is more interested in making money than listening to common sense advice.
