Mondeos £9k

The 2litre petrol ecoboost 240 can be had for the same price as most of these diesels.

Can anyone tell me what the 240 bhp 2 litre ecoboost is like with its auto box as the only option?
The Powershift box (twin clutch auto) is not quite as smooth or responsive as VW’s DSG but it’s nice to drive and they’re quite reliable.

the AT prices are negociable too ?

The fiesta injector thread, reminds us that is a ford diesel problem, mate had to fork out £1k for new jag/mondeo injectors,
so I'd be seeing if they are covered in warranties, plus test driving from cold.

Sure but likely not by two grand.

I don't really want to spend £9k cos thats the top of my budget. If a 2015 mk5 can be had for £9k then a 2012 mk4.5 with the same mileage should not be the same money it should be around say £5-6k at most.

If the Titanium X doesn't come as standard with xenons then really its not worth anything extra over the titanium. I'd have to hunt out xenons anyway and neither come with bodykit like the sport. I can understand the sport commanding a small premium over the others but its the same 2.0 litre diesel engine so £1k premium for the bodykit but surely no more than that. Quite how a 2 litre diesel sport is the same price if not more than the very rare 2 litre ecoboost sport I really don't know.

Insurance, mpg, probably doesn't help the ecoboost values ?

why the Xenon requirement ?. I use philips visionplus they seem fine,
with >40year mid-aged eyes, it is the badly adjusted hid/led lights on other cars that effect my safety more than my own lights.

@jpaul I had a 2003 mondeo 4 years ago with xenons, and when I got my Honda it had projector halogens. Huge difference noticed hence I want xenons again. I tried to go for better bulbs in the Honda but they were never the same and lasted less than a year - in 9 years of owning the mk3 mondeo I never had to replace a xenon bulb.

Are you not listening? The MK4.5 is better than the MK5 so it's in more demand and demand has a strong influence on prices.

Titanium X comes with part leather and alcantara seats, Titanium doesn't.

It's not a surprise that a similar capacity diesel costs the same (or even has a little bit of a premium) over a thirsty petrol.

99% of the population looking for a car don't care - they would prefer the newer model. Every review I have looked at rates both models. The mk5 gets good reviews too!

There is always an excuse. If the petrols are priced high, then its because they are rare. If the diesel is priced high, then oh its because the petrols are thirsty or more to insure or whatever.

If one accepts the logic that the petrols are rare (they are very rare in this model) then they should be priced higher. There are 10 diesels to every petrol in this model and trim, therefore why are the diesels the same price?

Its really quite simple, most used cars are overpriced in the first place. Given that the mk5 and mk4 are both nice cars, both with good reviews, and given that the diesel and petrol are both desirable and the petrol is rarer, then its quite clear that the newer mk5 should ne higher priced than the mk4.5 petrol which should be higher priced than the mk4.5 diesel. Yet instead prices are all over the place.

When you are looking for value for money and don't want to throw an extra grand or two at a car just because chancers think they can get it on autotrader, this stuff matters.
