Brand new build roughly £1000

might order a new ssd in the meantime...
@tamzzy and i were chewing the fat - may not be the ssd.

I'm busy at the mo - and considering explaining how to make a bootable Ubuntu drive, later (or at least send you to appropriate sites). But, it may get confusing and very time consuming for both...

I'll give it some more thought - but SSD is a strong contender...

I wonder what Windows is trying to do just after that starting services when crash happens...

Safe mode would be handy for checking if there are errors in event viewer.
But Wintoys10 is "easy to use", so it's harder to get into safe mode when Wintoys doesn't boot in the first place...

They even included a reindeer(?)
Wise reindeer to not be in target area...

These lights can be misleading - but maybe worth reseating the CPU, given all you've tried and the issues you're having.

can you clarify the quick way to clear cmos please :)
  • unplug PSU from wall
  • deplete all residual power from PC by pressing case power button a few times
  • then clear the CMOS by bridging the the JBAT1 pins (above and to the right of front panel header) - either using a 'jumper cap' or simply bridging the gap with a screwdriver for a few seconds.
  • then remove cap after a few seconds or screwdriver
  • CMOS cleared
  • plug back in
  • enter bios and do the usual

i have run out of ideas :( almost tempted to try and send stuff back for new but where would i start?
