dumb electricity question

I've been given a set of PC speakers. 2 small speakers with a subwoofer. On the back of the sub it has a hole for one of those standard ECP two-pin power cables. However on the back it of the sub it also says it needs 220v and 70mA. Does it need a power brick of somekind to provide this power?

No. If it's 220V that's straight mains-in. When you say ECP, you mean like a radio power cable, the figure-8 Philips type, yes?

As said, 220V is mains, so no transformer needed. It will just pull what current it needs

Yes.

You won't have a suitable one in your house but have a scout around outside, there's normally one quite close to you. It'll be constructed in grey metal, generally with protective fences around and a sign on the fence saying "Electricity substation, keep out, danger of death"

Fortunately, it'll already be connected to your house and you can access it via one of those three pin sockets that are handily installed in each room.

220V x 70ma = 15,400mW or 15.4W.

Sounds about right for an AC input
